How could he not feel that way? Mandela passing, Newtown's unrequited anniversary coming soon, hatred and ragged start for his hope-giving ACA, hard core intransigence everywhere he looks.

Dismissal of real accomplishments, yet a new year arrives, and once again we hope.

President Obama dances with a child dressed as an elf as he joins entertainers on stage, including actress Jane Lynch and ‘singer’ (sic) Mariah Carey, holding her daughter Monroe, at the end of the National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on the Ellipse in Washington, December 6

And, look at the Fam..

If they don't, it won't be for lack of trying. Hope I'm not repeating myself too often, but I believe that would be one of their dumbest as well as most evil moves possible. Who knows if President Obama might to some degree welcome such a disastrous move because it would pull even more of their fangs. But regardless how he feels, I doubt he prefers or fears such a possibility. How many people could carry the weight on his shoulders with such strength, dignity and grace? Nobody I know. Our champion arose at exactly the most critical time in our nation's history. If someone doesn't believe in any Higher Power, I don't know how they could deny Karma.

Even Molly Maguire runs right in when I call the dogs out of the yard. No balking. In fact, she and Brigid both will bark at the front door if I overestimate how long they need for a potty run. Brigid, slick as a cue ball, will stand up and pound her front feet against the storm door, too. They have me trained well.

I sit bolt upright if a fly sneezes in the next county. Even at my age I still have acute hearing and learned to sleep with one ear cocked in my youth. Bad habit in a way.

This cold is normal here and it will hit 10-20 below at least a few times every winter. May get worse too because global warming seems to be causing greater extremes in both directions. Climatologists say we might be able to grow orange trees here in 10-15 years if we can figure out how to winter them over. At 850' above sea level, that won't be easy. We're not Denver, but we are pretty high up. The gardening zone's the same as southern Maine.

I wish to be dead and buried before some major geographic/climatological catastrophe occurs.
(I think it must be redundant to write "major catastrophe"-- I don't think there are minor catastrophes, are there?)

What a world
