Labor Day cookout with Republicans today.

Used to bite my tongue and grin and bear it at these things. Came out loud and proud for Obama 2012 today! These people are so brainwashed by Faux News and hate radio it is unbelievable! I'm sure I didn't change any minds but I came armed with the facts and figures and left them speechless. Felt absolutely great to speak up on behalf of the President today. Cousin's college-age daughter asked me if I could get her a bumper sticker or button and I gave her both. I could tell her parents were pissed. Told them to get used to it. OBAMA 2012! We can do this!

A willingness to be prepared to slug it out with facts and figures, and don't back down.

The time for politeness and backing down, and playing nice is over.

You rock, my dear Kath1!

they don't bother disputing - they just come up with another talking point. And they are fed ENDLESS talking points from their dittomasters.

They are either totally ignorant of any depth of knowledge beyond a talking point tagline or slogan; Or what they do is try to find another issue that they hope would appeal to you. The flag-waving "god & guns" approach seems to be their last appeal or desperate trump card they try to play after you totally rebuff/refute their other talking points. Then they get mad. But of course an angry conservative isn't exactly a man bites dog news event, is it.

I would have liked to have shown up shouting, "HAIL THE PROLETARIAT, COMRADES!" just to piss people off.

Hopefully, this is a microcosm of what's happening and will happen to many family dynamics across our country.

All of the above! Pretty damn proud of myself, too. First time I really spoke up in a family setting. Way too much at stake in this election. I'm turning into a loudmouth liberal and I sort of like it!

All of my family are republicans. I do not know what happened to me. I swear I was adopted or stolen or something. I speak my mind often and will do my best to put my family in their place when they start spouting the lies they repeat from Fox News and my father's personal hero - Rush Limpballs but really it is an uphill battle and I get smacked down so many times that it is just pointless so it has just gotten to be instead of me trying to make them see the truth to just taunting them and making fun of them which is just sad really since they are my own family and we should love each other and care for each other but instead we just loath each other to death.

They don't realize how stupid they come off mimicking the talking points. I'm often surrounded by Republicans, and they can't keep their mouths shut. Democrats don't bring it up if they know people don't agree, but it's just like right wingers to have to shove their opinions in peoples' faces. And they are usually stupid as all get out.

My favorite is a relative who has been on welfare in the past, is on food stamps now, can't shut up, claims she voted for Obama and is "disappointed" (I'll never forgive the left for giving the right this meme to use against obama in this election with the idiots like this relative, who aren't even leftists but sheep) and likes Lyan because he's a "good Catholic man." Stupid wench.

I almost got into an argument with this nut job at a cook-out last weekend myself. Nut job was telling me how much she adored Rush Limbaugh and the way he laid it on the line. I said, "well he certainly spreads it on thick"!! I must have ended up in The Outer Limits, because it seemed to be a place of clones, clones everywhere, saying the same thing about Romney. How all of these kool aid drinkers loved Romney and that Ryan was really great! What really got to me was this, none of them had any money, they all were poor as dirt. everyone one of them had either got government assistance at one time, or was on it that day. I couldn't understand their way of thinking, especially people who had so little and thought so little of by the republican party. i thought everyone knew how the republicans felt about the poor, especially the ones who get assistance. he, Romney wants to cut out all of those services to the poor and these idiots are voting for him, they are crazy as heck!!
