Rushing over here

to get out of the muck at GD where an alert that POTUS will speak shortly has turned into a cesspool! OMG! I do try to 'alert' to timely news events, so DUers have an opportunity to watch, but may reconsider in order to retain my sanity!

asked Reid to present on Monday:

Obama To Congress: Come To A Deal – Or Else

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022088083

Which referred back to the great progressive budget that Obama offered about a month ago:

Obama offers GOP an ambitious, progressive debt-reduction plan

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021905787

And Tx4obama posted this, which will be sent to the House. I suspect it's a clean bill, as Pelosi has suggested, with up and down votes, to let the GOP followers show their true colors:

$60B Sandy aid package clears Senate

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=350255

People who don't want to know the facts, won't be bothered with them. I'm sure hoping this is what is going to happen. Obama has consistently stood by those who have continued to be hurt by GOP instransigence on jobs, etc. and to protect the most vulnerable and the unemployed.

There are millions of reasons that Obama has worked so hard to make a deal with the duly elected House GOP, and here is the story of a DUer showing the danger to him, right now:

I Just Qualified For The 2nd Fed Extended Unemployment Benefits...And I Might Get Cut Off Tomorrow

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022088133

This is the reason Obama has been working with the GOP because it's the law. He's no dictator, and the finnacial disaster that awaits people is real and not a game. But only 9 recs and only 4 replies so far. Do purists care about real people, or only about being seen as tough and winning some ideological game?

If I was you, I'd delete the OP you made if it's turned into a cesspool. Others lurking at DU, looking for answers from the Democratic Party and a place to join up, will be discouraged by that. The top of the trending page is a thread mischaracterizing those who support Obama - obviously unpopular. It's sad to see DU used as tool by those who despise Democrats.

you'd never know from the tone on du that his approval rating has been surging lately....

i wonder what the anti-obama people where honestly think bill clinton could have done were he president. newtie's subbornness seems quaint in comparison to the republican extremists of today. clinton perhaps could have made us *feel* better, but i rather doubt he could have accomplished more.

remember, clinton never faced a tea party having and exercising virtual veto power in congress. he only had to deal with newtie.

If Congress can't reach a deal, the president says Congress should allow a vote on a basic package that would preserve tax cuts for middle-class Americans while extending unemployment benefits for the long-term jobless and working toward a foundation for a broader deal.

GD cesspool is right.

Back in the day, we used to think we were a relevant voice, and some boasted about how certain journalists and politicians surely must be reading our ever-so-thoughtful and intelligent posts on this board. It seemed not only possible but probable!

Now not so much, now that the trolls have taken over. DU will find itself pretty much irrelevant if every person who drops by has to wade through Obama-hate and Big Dog-hate and Gore-hate in an attempt to find some small nuggets of gold. Does anybody think Rachel bothers, just to name one?
