Bear rips top off Shelby Cobra to get box of Fig Newtons

I can relate. Those things are delicious.

Fig Newtons, I mean. I couldn't tell you about bears.

Cue the Farmers Insurance jingle.

The Associated Press Retweeted:

A hungry bear ripped the top of a nearly $1M classic Shelby Cobra to snag a box of Fig Newtons shoved behind the seat during a road trip through Alaska. Story: http://apne.ws/kRJqXwW

Bear tears through classic Shelby Cobra on Alaska road trip

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A North Carolina man plans to leave the dents in his rare vintage car for a while to relish the Alaska vacation story behind it. It’s not every day that a pricey collector’s treasure is damaged by a bear breaking into it to steal cookies.

“It’s bar room talk,” Tom Cotter of Davidson, North Carolina, said Monday shortly before he was scheduled to fly home from Anchorage after he toured the state for two weeks in his red 1965 289 Shelby Cobra with several other car collectors.

Cotter’s car sustained major rips to the vinyl roof and dents on the body when the bear broke into it last week at Alyeska Ski Resort, 38 miles (61 kilometers) south of Anchorage. He learned about the break-in when one of his friends texted him a photo of the damaged car the morning it was discovered.

No words were necessary for Cotter, who rushed out to assess the damages. ... “This car will forever be known as the bear Cobra,” said Cotter, 64, an author who writes about finding rare vintage cars. He also has a YouTube channel called The Barn Find Hunter.....

I pictured a bear tearing off the metal top to a car, not just slicing through a canvas convertible top.

Heck, I could shred a little canvas to break into something if the right kind of chocolate was involved.

frequently. One fall, a bear politely slid open a window in the shop building in my backyard. I keep bird seed and chicken feed in there...anyway Mr/Ms Bear got inside, panicked and raised all kinds of hell until he/she figured out how to just go out the way it came in. He/She tore sheet rock off the walls down to the studs, tore molding from around windows and left a dandy nose print six feet up on a window. It even tipped a cabinet over behind the door so I couldn’t get in the next day. Bear’s final calling card was a big pile of poop full of apples that it no doubt had eaten from my tree. I had to climb in the same window that bear had used to enter my shop because of the cabinet that had been pulled down preventing me from going in the door. It was a big mess. I called my homeowners insurance to check on my coverage for such an incident and guess what? Not covered. Apparently I needed a “wild animal damage rider” on my policy. Yeah, true story. Bastards....insurance companies, not bears.

ripped a sheet of siding off and punched through the dry wall. Chewed on the canned goods, drank 3 litres of boxed red wine, ate a fire starter log, and finally bit into a can of oven cleaner we used for the fireplace glass. He left a huge paw print on a mirror and of course pooped. Then the coyotes came after and cleaned up, also pooping.
