Houston police chief writes 140 mph speeding ticket to driver of Dodge Viper

If you ever find yourself in front of daunting red and blue lights, be thankful they don't belong to Houston's top cop – like one Houston driver experienced Friday.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo was driving on the Hardy Toll Road when the driver of a Dodge Viper allegedly blew past him at 140 mph, the chief told Chron.com.

"It almost took my doors off," Acevedo said describing the moment.

He radioed the driver into police dispatch and gave chase in his police Chevrolet Tahoe, topping out around 120 mph, he said.

Acevedo wrote the driver a $304 ticket for the traffic violation.

for 120 on his motorcycle but he had to stop at a rest stop to pee, and the savvy State Trooper caught up to him. Served spouse right, the idiot.

I can assure you, it is, but it does NOT belong on a public highway!

I am a high-performance driving instructor - have driven all of the "super cars" at speeds equal to that - but on a private race track.
We would like to think that if we have any experience with a high-performance vehicle we can handle any situation - but we can NEVER anticipate what any other driver (or animal) may do on the road ahead of us.

Spouse's butt was well kicked by a $1500 ticket and by me - the Parks is a two lane windy, lousily maintained mountains to swamp road.

I've been "on the track" a number of times. It's a great experience with smart instructors and lots of safety. Not since about 1994, though.

On the track is a blast. I had a girlfriend back in the 80's who was also an instructor. We don't have high speed tracks here, just roundy rounds, but they're still fun.

We're very "in the sticks" here - and that is NOT safe to do high speed driving. Period.

5. I did a race track ride along in Utah a couple of years back

We were is suped up mustangs as I recall.
Definately a scream.

4. Criminal speeding(20+ over posted) is considered reckless driving and often a doubled fine.

Even in Texas. The driver will probably be forced to see a judge i.e. a letter from the state is forthcoming. My experience is 2nd hand....my son can tell you 1st.

Lots of police depts don't allow that, for good reason.
