An old one - 2014..not Florida, but/ France buys trains that are too fat for 1,300 station platforms

15 Billion Dollar Order...

_________________________________________________________________________________________
The country that brought the TGV high-speed train to Europe has accidentally created another first – the TFT, or the Too Fat Train.

More than 2,000 new regional trains ordered by the French state railways company, the SNCF, are too wide to enter the old, rural stations that they are supposed to serve. To the indignation of national and local politicians, 1,300 platforms have to be rebuilt at a cost of at least €50m. (about $100 million in our money)

“It’s like ordering a big, new car without checking the width of your garage,” said Emmanuel Grondein, of the SUD-Rail trade union.

fixed up...Yes, they have "trains." And in many places we do not have "trains" Also, we have a very bad city to city "train system" in most of the country.

(In the northeast, around New York City, Washington D C and Boston their train system, city to city, is very good. (It is often quicker to get on a train, go to a city.... then to go to the airport, check in and wait, then land and check in again at the other city etc.)
...So the system varies..and when we define a "train system" including subways...(you get on a train in a NY City subway)..well that is a different story. NY subway system is one of the best and goes everywhere. Safer and quicker than driving a car around New York City...oh well...back to cleaning the house..
