Factory worker wins the lottery TWICE in 24 hours....

The luckiest man in America: Factory worker wins the lottery TWICE in 24 hours after winning $200,000 on a scratchcard as he went to collect his $55,000 windfall

Cary Collings, 61, from Washington, won $55,555 on his first scratchcard

Boeing worker then won $200,000 the following on second card

Said he will not give up work and does not know how to spend the money

Winning $55,000 on the lottery would be enough for most people.

But within 24 hours, Cary Collings bought another scratchcard on the way to cashing in his ticket - and won another $200,000.

The 61-year-old can count himself among the luckiest men in America after winning the life changing sum.

By the time he pays taxes, would it be considered a "life-changing sum"? woodsprite Jun 2013 #1

If you win $55K, you probably have about 38K left after taxes. OK, I'd get my house sided and single glass windows replaced with double-pane energy efficient windows. Life changing? Not exactly - other than possibly a lower monthly utility bill.

If you win $255K, after taxes you probably get about $190K? Not enough to retire on. Maybe enough to pay off your car or buy a new one, pay off your mortgage, take a moderate cruise/vacation and invest a bit.

I wouldn't turn down either one, but I wouldn't call either scenario life-changing. Hmmm, I'd pay off the car, pay *down* the mortgage and refinance, then I'd make some upgrades on our house/property and with the savings from the lower monthly payments on the house and no car payment I'd have more to invest in a retirement fund.

a retirement account, pay off debts, maybe buy a new "toy" to fulfill a childhood dream. Maybe use it to help a grown child get retrained for a better job, start a savings account for grandkids.

But he still probably HAS to go to work until he retires.
