What would happen if superdelegates had to vote for the candidate who won their state? (Original Post) DesertRat Apr 2016 OP
Why have a separate class for super delegates? This is not the purpose of the SD's, Thinkingabout Apr 2016 #1

The SD's are elected Democratic officials or people involved with the DNC. They are to prevent hostile takeovers from other parties or movements like the TP in the GOP. It has only been in recent history where people voted in primaries.

BTW, the Green Papers can run the Green Party to their liking, I will nit be telling them how to handle their primaries.

So now they plan on using the SD's to help Bernie win the nomination and a few months ago they were saying they was undemocratic.

...and as you pointed out, all three resulted in more superdelegates for Clinton than Sanders.

The way the superdelegate "system" was established, for the most part they are delegates that have earned their status by either being elected to specific offices (Governor, Senator, Representative) or are DNC members who have been working to elect Democratic candidates from top to bottom in elections.

With that in mind, it's no wonder that 470+ superdelegates have come out in support of Hillary Clinton. Of the two candidates only she has "walked in their Democratic shoes".
