On the Vermont senator, Francis said he greeted Sanders on Saturday morning as he was leaving the Santa Marta, the hotel within Vatican grounds where the pope lives.

Sanders was staying at the same residence, because that’s where all participants in the Vatican conference he attended on Friday were spending the night. The only exceptions were Presidents Evo Morales of Bolivia and Rafael Correa of Ecuador, who stayed at their country’s embassy in Rome.

“This morning as I was leaving, Senator Sanders was there,” Francis said. “He knew I was coming out at that time, and he had the kindness to greet me.”

“When I came down, he introduced himself, I greeted him with a handshake, and nothing more,” the pope added. “It’s common courtesy, this is called common courtesy.

“If someone thinks that greeting someone is getting involved in politics,” he said, “I recommend that they find a psychiatrist.”

was the first I heard that news. It blew me away.. it just didn't compute.. I found out later why.. straight from the Pope!

I just couldn't believe Pope Francis would do that.. and, of course, I don't even know him that well.

This particular stunt of BS' has pissed me off more than the others.. I'm not even Catholic.. but, come on!

Can't you just hear them in their "war room" hatching up this plan? Getting Jeffrey Sachs on the horn.. or maybe it was Sachs in the beginning and he got them on the horn.

Whatever.. plan hatched.. burnie is sinking in NY due to himself so they need to change the subject fast! How about going to Rome and "meeting" the Pope? Get jane out there on AM's show and have her pumping it .. bern will go on The View.. they'll buy it.

What could go wrong? Oh, that's right .. the Law of Unintended consequences.. The Quote from the Pope!

Whew!

in Pennsylvania since they darn well know that BS will lose New York big time. They need another delegate-rich State to try and counter what looks to be a blow-out in NY, and Pennsylvania (where he's behind in the polls, too) has a large Catholic voting bloc. This is the only reason I can think of why his campaign would send him on a 9-hour flight to the Vatican to hopefully get a photo-op with the Pope.

Although the polls aren't showing such a blow-out in CA like in NY, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, we have what I call an ACE. As an aside, polls don't do too well in CA considering the large Latino demographic, and Latinos here are notorious for not participating with polls of any kind (and as George Lopez jokes, they don't even open the door for anyone they don't know!), so the polls look closer between Hillary and BS than they should be.

That said, the "ACE" I'm referring to is Gloria Allred.

She's a tough civil rights attorney and staunch Democrat. She was instrumental in helping defeat Meg Whitman with the case of Nikki Diaz, Meg Whitman's ex-housekeeper, an undocumented maid. Jerry Brown went on to win in a landslide - as did my beloved Senator Boxer that year (2010). Nothing gets Latinos' blood boiling faster than having a powerful person treat a Latino/Latina unfairly.

Don't be surprised when Gloria comes out in front of the cameras with the documented allegations against BS' campaign being behind the attacks of Julian Castro, or at least linking him to it. You don't get to piss off the huge Latino community in CA and think you'll win your election here. That's just the reality.

I was thinking Delores Huerta will make more than a few appearances, too. We all know how they treated her in Nevada and then Hillary Won Big in Texas!

And, how dare they start bullying up on HUD Sec, Julian Castro, and to what purpose?.. other than he's maybe on the short list for VP and they're jealous.

Mahalo for telling me about Gloria Allred.. I had no idea that's what helped sink Meg Whitman and her Millions!

years, most specifically during the 2008 primaries, that the Catholic vote in PA is HUGE and candidates need to win them over in order to win PA. He has his finger on PA politics.

As for CA, well, I live here and watch, listen, and read about CA politics. Yes, Delores Huerta will play a major role in CA as a positive influence, but we need someone to get the Latino blood boiling, and that person is reliably Gloria Allred. She's as good at litigating as she is at politics, and she's been a Clinton supporter since forever.

I didn't know about this bullying of Julian Castro until the other day myself. Sneaky BS. Although the BS Campaign denies having anything to do with the ugly attacks on Julian Castro by a front-group posing as a Latino activist group (Joe Velasquez' words, not mine) for a mostly White, ultra-Liberal cash-flushed activist group, that's not the sentiment among Latinos. I wrote about it here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1107&pid=104051

Gloria Allred was instrumental in getting Jerry Brown elected and Senator Boxer re-elected that year when all States were going Republican. She was in no way part of Senator Boxer's campaign nor Jerry Brown's. But she's a staunch Democrat and civil rights activist, as is her daughter, Lisa Bloom (who you might've seen a lot on MSNBC during the Trayvon Martin death and Zimmerman's legal case), and all polls were showing that Meg Whitman looked poised to win the gubernatorial.

When Gloria Allred produced Nikki Diaz, the undocumented and fired maid of the Whitman's, and as she was on teevee weeks on end with a weeping Nikki, the polls reversed almost overnight as Latinos got angry and got ready to vote against Republicans. I seriously believe that that was the moment when Jerry Brown and Senator Boxer were guaranteed to win that year.

Mahalo for the compliment, Cha.

When this primary season first started last year.. I have to be candid and say.. they were not big on Hillary.. and there was nothing really against sanders. But, the more they found out about BS the more they started looking @ Hillary favorably and now they can really see her positives and they ******* loathe sanders.. and lot of that is the way he dismisses the accomplishments of President Obama and the "Deep South-Southern" voters.

And good morning!
It;'s interesting to watch how attitudes change as the process moves forward. I think that the other candidate doesn't far from home (stays mostly somewhere between northern Vermont and DC. This might have been the first time he's left the region!) which makes for a rather myopic view of who else is out here in the rest of the country which makes him insulated from the issues and hodgepodge of cultural influences... not many POC in Vermont. I'm from New England - left at 16 and never moved back because I was tired of being called the "n" word and never allowed to get a job outside of shoe and cardboard box factories.

So I think a lot of the opposition's candidate is lacking a broader embrace of all of us... why he still has issues w/blm to this day.

Thanks to she, too.

Of course I can't read the pope's mind, and I wish I could have heard him say what he said. But his choice of words sounded somewhat impatient: "So when I went down, I said hello, a shake of the hand and nothing more," he continued. "This is politeness. This is called good manners"

I don't blame him, either. Bernie and Jane interrupted him on the way out. I'm sure he gets a lot of that, but a political figure, someone running for U.S. president, should know better. Particularly when he knows damn well the pope has no intention of involving himself in U.S. presidential politics. To waylay him on his way out was just plain rude.
