Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumCan I hide out here for a while?
My wife and I are both 90%+ sure that we will vote for Hillary in the SC primary (and remember that it was SC that basically propelled Obama to the 2008 nomination).
I got a notice the other day that I have been barred from the Bernie Sanders forum.
My crime?
I posted a reply in a thread which I didn't even realize was in the Sanders forum about a ridiculous and misleading post. The title said that more Democrats were now supporting Sanders than Clinton, but the body of the text asserted that Clinton would lose the election if nominated. I replied that the post was both misleading and ridiculous. Not a comment that really had anything to do with which candidate I supported or why.
While I could appeal and have this action rescinded, I decided to put the group leader on my ignore list and stay away from such a narrow-minded and thin-skinned environment.
I am a huge fan of Bernie's, and think he is possibly the best current member of the US Senate. I can't support him in the primary because I think Clinton will likely win the general election while I am afraid Sanders would lose. And, I think Clinton would be best able to carry on effectively advancing a liberal agenda.
I think the next election, with its implications for Supreme Court appointments, campaign financing and voter suppression may be a major turning point in our history. Following 8 years of Obama with 8 more of a Democratic President should destroy the very real threat of the Tea Party fanatics and give us a progressive government and a sane opposition party.
I feel confidant that we will all come together behind our party's candidate when the primary is over - the stakes are too high not to win this one.
Peace.

(730 posts)I post very rarely.
But having posted to both Sanders and Hillary OPs asking them to not count chickens and such, I would get blasted. We are a year away from determining our candidate, and truly hope that whoever wins, the other side will gather and vote for OUR candidate.
My state primary is a long time away, and despite leaning towards Bernie, I have every intention of voting for Hillary if she wins the nomination.
I remember eight short years ago when the infighting brewed between the Hillary, Obama and Edwards camps. Harsh words were thrown, many not ever forgiven.
I fear it is happening again.
I hate that it will. We need a united front behind the eventual candidate.

(10,565 posts)not knowing I was in the Bernie group when I responded to a ridiculous post. I agree with you. I like Bernie but I don't believe that Americans are going to elect a Socialist. I'm a little dismayed at how aggressive and harsh the Sanders Enforcers have become. I've only posted 1800 times in my 11 years here- Hopefully the nastiness will subside after the primaries.

(30,058 posts)candidate to win the DNC primary and then the presidency of the US. That person is Hillary Clinton. She is strong and able, she will do well in some areas and will not need to fake where she stands on an issue.

And were DUers banned from, say, Obama or Hillary, or Edwards forums in 2008? Don't remember whether there were dedicated groups.

(53,661 posts)I barely caught myself before replying to a Bernie room post, a video that seemed to be of Sanders and Jessie Jackson but despite Bernie introducing Jessie, he wasn't in it. He must have been was edited out.
I voted for Jessie Jackson and believe he is a great man. I followed his movement very closely, and it seemed to build on the liberal tradition of JFK and RFK. It was very inclusive.
I was disgusted at how 'liberal' media treated him in interviews as if he was a joke or talked over him like he was not there. It was an eye opener. Then they did the same to Obama.
This video was in 1988 and 27 years have gone by and Bernie has not changed his theme one bit so I can say he's consistent. But he has not had the full brunt of the generation long hate machine created to stop Clinton which I believe many have swallowed, hook, line and sinker like bait.
And are more anti-HRC than pro-BS, sad to say, following the history of some of the posters. I was savaged out the gate for not agreeing with the very first post about the new group, not even in the group. I was sick of the attacks on HRC.
That is why I didn't post or Rec that thread a few minutes ago. And I won't contribute Recs or kicks to their threads which have mostly had to be driven out of GD, yet they keep on coming back, and also go to other forums to recruit.
I came here and stated my position of what I felt and said I was going to learn more about HRC - not the manufactured outrage, the real person. The group has been very tolerant of me and my concerns. I'm kinda wishy washy to some, I think. But the BS supporters drove me away with focusing more on not liking HRC than helping BS. I'm not going back.
So take it easy, this is a good place to take a breather.

(13,871 posts)I've been on DU for 15 years and it wasn't until a couple of months ago that I was really concerned about some of the sentiment here. Not the Sanders vs Clinton discussion; that is normal and healthy party politics. It was the many threads that took a position that Clinton (both of them) and Obama were just marginally better than the GOP.
BTW, I've met Jessie Jackson twice. He is sincere and committed, and takes his treatment from the press in stride. I voted for him before, and always wished he had come back to SC and run for Congress, but even with 1/3 AA population we only get one of 7 seats with majority minority and Jim Clyburn has that locked in for as long as he wants it.
Everyone knows of the tension between Clyburn and the Clintons in 08 over his early support of Obama. I can assure you he will be a force for Hillary in the next primary and I expect her to pull in 2/3 of the vote.

(297,275 posts)time doing that because I read in ATA the other day that Skinner has not overturned a verdict since the whole thing started.
Most of us will come together when the Primary's are over bc those are House Rules. We'll have our candidate and we won't be whining or bashing about whomever to be helping out the gop.

I knowingly replied to a post there regarding the use of a Peggy Noonan comment to make a point against Hillary. I didn't think Democrats should use Republican pundits to trash other Democrats. I never insulted Sanders, who I like very much, or his campaign. I got piled on, called clueless, all the while they were using the usual tactics to demean those they don't agree with. I answered their taunts and was banned for being a troll for answering the very posts they made against me.
You simply have to laugh at them.... They aren't doing their candidate justice. The worst thing is they claimed they didn't see anything wrong with quoting Noonan to use against Hillary. Unbelievable....
I did do one thing I know pissed them off... I told them I hadn't made up my mind about a candidate and at that moment, I hadn't... I did want to see more from O'Malley before I decided. But they pissed me off so much that I thought about it for a bit and decided since I knew I was going to end up supporting Hillary anyway, I'd just go ahead and make it public. They didn't like that either. But it was their doing.
I do hope we can come together when the primary is over. As you said, the stakes are too high.

(796 posts)I've just been lurking this election cycle. This is my first post in 4 years! I know I'm going to support Hillary but I don't want to fight with people about Bernie Sanders so I haven't been posting. But seriously, I just assume that every thread that has Bernie this or that or Feel the Bern or whatever is a thread that I don't want to leave a comment in. And I too like Bernie Sanders, but his supporters, that's another story.

(67,782 posts)...I innocently responded to a Sanders post that appeared under "Trending Now" on the Home Page. Little did I know it was from the Bernie Sanders Group, so I was castigated. When I explained that it wasn't fair that their "safe haven" posts appear on the Home Page - BAM! I was banned.
I don't know what to do, but really something has to be done about this. They zealously "DU-Rec" just about every post that has "Sanders" in the title, and lots of their Group posts wind up on the Home Page.
I've pointed out elsewhere that I've seen as many as four of the five posts under "Trending Now" that anyone who doesn't agree can't even respond to.
Any suggestions on how to remedy this situation, or do we just have to wait until he loses a few primaries and drops out?

(13,218 posts)Which shows you how thin-skinned some people are. Two notes:

2) if you get to know most thin-skinned people you understand why they're thin-skinned (think about it).
