Just returned from my Washington Legislative District Caucus

As I mentioned earlier I was chosen an alternative delegate for Hillary Clinton at my precinct Caucus. It was a good thing I had shown up because the main delegate did not. It gets more interesting from here.

Our precinct caucus screwed up with the proportion of delegates. We were assigned 5 delegate positions. 28 people had shown up, 18 voted for Sanders 10 for Hillary. Doing the math that comes to 3.2 for Sanders 1.8 for Hillary. Mistakenly they figured since Bernie had the most votes he received 4 delegates and Hillary 1.

Turns out that was incorrect. It should have been 3 for Sanders 2 for Hillary.

6 people in my precinct had shown up today. Myself the 4 Sanders delegates and one alternative Sanders delegate. What follows is a rule I thought wrong when I first heard of it but it makes sense in the end.

Because we were one Clinton delegate short an alternative Clinton delegate from another precinct would be allowed to caucus with us. The rule also applied to any precinct that was short one Sanders delegate.

There was an attempt by a handful of Sanders supporters to repeal this rule by vote. The guy presiding over the caucus warned that if this rule was not followed delegates could be ruled invalid at the next level, the Congressional District caucus.

This went to a vote by all delegates there and I'm happy to say the Sanders rebels were unsuccessful.

We then split up by the two Congressional Districts 1 and 2 which divide LD 44 then further by which candidate we supported. It was at that point delegates for the Congressional Distract caucuses were picked.

The rule allowing alternative delegates from other precincts to caucus with a different precinct was used to avoid the bullshit that went on in Nevada. I'm glad to say it was successful at least in my Legislative caucus.
