Attack the issue never the person
To enhance and protect the civility of DU it is time to establish a clear rule in the Terms of Service against personal attacks. While the TOS protects against disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate posts it's not enough and Skinner needs to make it perfectly clear.
More to the question....

1. We are going to do this.
For many years DU had a list of rules with a strong focus on civility. We moved away from that approach when we introduced the jury system in 2011, but once the primaries are over we are going to go back to having a list of rules that all of our members are expected to follow. The job of jurors will be narrowly defined to deciding whether a post violates our rules. Jurors who are unwilling or unable to enforce our rules will not serve on juries.
We'll have a lot more to say about the details once the primaries are over.
Bold was added by me.
What is also interesting is the question came from a Bernie fan, whom I personally feel have been the most outrageous in their insults, rudeness and downright arrogant and their demeaning comments, not only of fellow DUer's but also of HRC.
As I said, only about a month to go, and then DU should begin to be the political discussion forum we have all known and loved.

(42,862 posts)... a site like The Daily Kos, or Huffington Post, or Slate, or Salon. In my opinion, this is just a small self-selected group in a closed ecosystem.
When was the last time you heard Rachel Maddow say "... interesting developments over at Democratic Underground today..." or "... a Bernie Sanders supporter posted a devastating attack on Hillary Clinton at Democratic Underground..."
DU is a gathering place, it's a business like any other, but it's not a player. (No offense, just my opinion.)

(70,218 posts)is spouted here. DU is a social website--it feeds into others and manufactures anger and hate.

(42,862 posts)For those who are already feeling-the-hate, this place is a good clearing house for inspiration. But, those haters would have likely been able to find their smears and lies anywhere. At this late date, they're just posting it for the blood-sport of it now. To entertain themselves by annoying others.
I just stumbled onto this place by accident, I just took a "wrong turn" and happened upon it. It was not a destination. Actually, nobody I know (not even my "plugged-in" sons nor my techy-husband) had ever heard of this place.

(297,232 posts)We'll see what happens.. As it is mob rules.. that's no way to run a web site.
My friends have been on FFR for weeks and they were hidden by the mob.. not sure why their "reviews" are being ignored.

(23,668 posts)I hope Skinner doesn't wait until after the convention.
"But when general election season begins, DU members must support Democratic nominees (EXCEPT in rare cases where a non-Democrat is most likely to defeat the conservative alternative, or where there is no possibility of splitting the liberal vote and inadvertently throwing the election to the conservative alternative). For presidential contests, election season begins when both major-party nominees become clear.
As far as most are concerned, the our party nominee has been clear for months.
