All but four California House Democrats are with Clinton. Here’s why

Four California House Democrats are keeping a tight lid on who they think should be their party’s presidential nominee.

The California primary is June 7, and the other 35 members of the Golden State’s Democratic House delegation, and both its U.S. senators, have backed Hillary Clinton for months.

But House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Reps. Barbara Lee, Alan Lowenthal and Norma Torres said they aren’t ready to publicly support either Clinton or Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is popular but lagging in delegates.

Lowenthal, from Long Beach, said he’s still watching the candidates and doesn’t expect to announce a choice before California votes next month. As a state senator, Lowenthal endorsed Barack Obama in January 2008.

He said he and the other undecided House members talk privately about what to do and when to endorse. He said announcing support strategically could help bring the Democratic Party together.

“A lot of us think that we’re going to play a major role in making sure that we unify behind our candidate. We’re going to have to really be very actively involved, all of us … to make sure that we come together and make sure that we don’t split apart, like we are watching on the Republican side,” Lowenthal said.

2. They're probably holding out so they don't have to put up with the wrath of Sanders supporters

I'd think twice about endorsing too early myself.

That being said, I do like Lowenthal's comment about a unified show of support for the candidate after CA votes. I think he pretty much said what's going to happen and who they're going to endorse without openly announcing it.

4. There apparently are about 20 delegates that have decided but not publicly.

Sometimes it is about timing and sometimes it is about assholes that don't have a clue about the process. Especially if the assholes haven't been involved in elections before.

I don't know why she hasn't yet, but I doubt it is from any animus against Hillary.

11. Agreed. I think it's about timing - showing a unified front is going to be important this cycle.

Not that it isn't every election, but with the animosity of this one rivaling 2008, it's a little more so than usual.

8. so their reason for not endorsing in their mind is to bring the party together. Who are they trying

to bring together? Those Sanders' supporters who already said they won't vote for Hillary in the general election? I don't think so.
