http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2016-05-18/clinton-democrats-confronting-dangerous-divisions-within-partyHillary Clintons claim of a narrow victory in Kentucky and Bernie Sanders win in Oregon illustrated a deepening rift among Democrats with the potential to hobble the party heading into the general election.
The split outcome in Tuesdays primaries gives Clinton little leverage to push Sanders to unify his supporters behind her in preparation for an expected campaign against presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, who is using the extended primary contest to attack Clintons standing with her own party.
Sanders showed no intention of dialing back his fight against Clinton or urging his supporters to fall in line. His spokesman said Sanders is considering seeking a recount in Kentucky, where Clinton was clinging to a lead of a half percentage point.
We are in until the last ballot is cast, Sanders told supporters at a rally in Carson, California, saying he believes he can win the June 7 primary in the nations most populous state. We have the possibility -- it will be a steep climb, I recognize that -- but we have the possibility of going to Philadelphia with the majority of the pledged delegates, Sanders said of the July nominating convention. He said in early general election poll match-ups he does much better against Trump than Clinton.
Clinton has 96 percent of the delegates and superdelegates needed to clinch the nomination, according to an Associated Press estimate Wednesday. Sanders has 64 percent. Hed need to win about two-thirds of the rest of the pledged delegates to pull even with Clinton by the end of the nominating race, according to AP.
With her lead in the nomination race all but insurmountable, Clinton and party leaders had been looking to take advantage of a split in the Republican Party over Trump that has been opening since the start of the primary campaign. Instead, theyre dealing with their own divisions. That was illustrated with an eruption by Sanders supporters during last weekends state party convention in Nevada.

(17,055 posts)Bernie thinks we Dems should just open the doors & let Independents in. They are welcome to become Democrats if they want in. What's stopping them? I don't get it.
Is he actually saying that we should give them some kind of authority in our party? A party that they won't join. I don't get it.

(3,300 posts)I think Independents, just want to choose when there is a election, when a candidate they don't like on either side they can interfere with the election process in stopping them from getting elected, not sure but that's what our friends think..otherwise why are they not a party member of either....good question

(25,485 posts)Plus, it's the only way they can win (though, there's little evidence that that's true), and they want to still be seen as outsiders, even the old white guy who's been in Congress for 25 years.

(3,743 posts)shopping in San Francisco in 1964. It fits in the palm of my hand and when you push on the top of its head, Pauls hair pops up and down. That is great that Ringo was interested in your art. He does some art work too, doesn't he? I have seen Ringo a few times and he puts on a great concert too. The last time Paul came to the Bay Area, he played at Candlestick Baseball Stadium right before it was torn down. I wasn't able to go and I was so worried he wouldn't come to this area again. My dad (who is 90 years old) called me the night before tickets for Paul in Sacramento went on sale to tell me he saw it on the news. If he hadn't told me I probably wouldn't have been able to get tickets (except from the scalpers who are selling them for outrageous prices). I still have all my old Beatles albums. Do you? Sorry to run on and on. Just love to talk Beatles (and Hillary too... She said a few months ago that she is a Beatles fan...Of course!) When is Paul going to be in your home town?
