Isn't this just flat out misogyny, hidden behind the 'just a tinge' qualifier? Like, "How DARE that woman..." It's the language of a coward.

Kimmel played a clip of a recent Clinton interview in which she said, "I will be the nominee ... there is no way I won't be."
Asked if that makes Sanders mad, the Vermont senator responded, "just a tinge of arrogance there, I think."
"I kind of think on June 7, the people of California will have a message for Secretary Clinton," Sanders added.

(5,737 posts)Odd thing is, she doesn't even need to win CA. After the NJ polls close on the same day, she will have enough delegates.

I think it might have been better if he called her comment "presumptuous" rather than "arrogant." But given the question I don't think the answer is inappropriate. To his credit he goes on to clearly explain that he is trailing her.

(12,448 posts)rather than saying she's "a touch arrogant." Women have heard those EXACT words many times in and out of the workplace. it's a dog whistle that's used by men who stop themselves actually saying "bitchy" or "shrill." As a man, Skinner, you can't see it, but women certainly can.

I'll post to you what I said to Skinner..
The Problem with sanders calling her "arrogant" is .. . Hillary can do the math.. he won't.
Of course Hillary is going to be straight up with her supporters that she will be the nominee.. sanders is not straight up with his.. such a huge difference."
Thank you for your post.. I know the BS campaign uses those words to marginalize, deprecate and demean Hillary.
He's demonized her to his fans.. is it any wonder so many hate her?

Not the first time he's called her that.. He does everything to marginalize, demean, and deprecate her.. he demonizes her to his fans.. It's no wonder they hate her.

(25,471 posts)He tells his supporters that they're going to win all the time. How exactly is that different, again?
I suppose that one could be pedantic and say "going to" and "already have" are two different things. In reality, in this particular instance, they're the same thing.
Cha
(297,240 posts)Sanders on those Sunday shows.. I asked her what her impression was.. she said "arrogant" and egotistical".
I "yes" you got that right.

(889 posts)Hillary is the front-runner. So she clearly has the right to assert that she will be the nominee, especially at this late date.
But the primary is not over yet. So Bernie clearly has the right to criticize his opponent, and use rather harsh terms in doing so. That's politics.
Personally, I wish Bernie would have said "that's a bit presumptuous" instead of saying that "tinge of arrogance" thing. But again, that's politics. What's important is what Bernie says after (or, if) Hillary officially gets the nomination. Words will really matter then.
Cha

She's strong.
She's confident.
She's got opinions.
Of course he calls it arrogant. Yet another illustration of just how off his judgement is.

(50,557 posts)They brought Hillary in at 10 am and five top Hollywood special effects makeup artists spent eight arduous hours transforming her into an exact likeness of Bernie Sanders. The hardest part was teaching a nice Southern lady to impersonate Bernie's "nice Jewish boy from Brooklyn who's eaten too many blini" accent Bernie has, but they managed.

(10,829 posts)I don't know what has happened of late with St Bernard but he's become an absolute snit. Hillary demonstrates a 'tinge of arrogance' for simply stating the facts. While The Bernie continues to delude his supporters with promises of victory when the path to victory is nada. He's become a disrespectful crank. His return to the Senate should be awkward. And frankly, he deserves it. These latest stunts--debating Trump & the injunction in California--are sour grapes on speed dial.
I said earlier that we would ultimately see what Bernie Sanders was truly made of at the end of the road. We're seeing it now. It's not pretty.

(747 posts)a man can be called arrogant as well. It works in both sides of the sex boundary. Sanders just speaking his mind about his opponent - that's politics. If Hillary was born a man with the same mindset, Sanders will say the same thing about the male version. But when it comes to being misogynous, Trump takes it hands down.

(47,152 posts)arrogant (ărˈə-gənt)►
adj.
Having or displaying a sense of overbearing self-worth or self-importance.
adj.
Marked by or arising from a feeling or assumption of one's superiority toward others: an arrogant contempt for the weak. See Synonyms at proud.
Bernie could have simply disputed her view, there was no damn reason to smear her character. I have not heard Clinton say anything like that about Sen. Sanders.
Cha
(297,240 posts)Well, that wouldn't have been sanders saying it then.. that's all he does is insult her character.. he's demonized her to his fans.. no wonder they hate her so much.
Thank you for the definition.. that's exactly what's he conveying.. it's not the first time he's called her "arrogant", either.
He's all about projecting personal attacks.
