Clinton lands in McAllen for Cantu fundraiser
McALLEN The unseasonably hot Rio Grande Valley wind warmed Hillary Clintons face as she stepped out of the jet at McCreery Aviations private airport just after 5 p.m. Thursday.
The former Secretary of State and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, have visited the area many times over the years. Construction magnate Alonzo Cantu, a Valley native, has been one of the Clinton familys biggest donors. But Thursday marked her first visit as a 2016 Democratic presidential candidate.
As soon as she was shuttled off the tarmac, her caravan whisked her to Cantus house, where guests paid $2,700 a head to be in the same room.
State representatives from the Valley all Democrats met with Clintons staff around 3 p.m. Thursday to discuss her campaign, said Rep. Terry Canales, D-Edinburg. They examined the political campaigns of other Democrats and brainstormed what do to differently, he said.
