Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumNew poll showing Clinton beating everyone is reported as bad news for Hillary: (HILLARY GROUP)
A new Quinnipiac University poll shows Hillary Clinton coasting to a crushing victory in a three-way race against Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden, winning 45 percent of the vote, compared with 22 for Sanders and 18 for Biden.
And the good news for Clinton doesn't stop there.
The poll shows Clinton beating Jeb Bush head to head.
The poll shows Clinton beating Marco Rubio head to head.
The poll shows Clinton beating Donald Trump head to head.
The poll shows Clinton winning in a landslide in scenarios where Trump runs as an independent.
The poll did not test Clinton against Scott Walker or other possible nominees.
So how did the media report this poll showing that if the election were held this week Hillary Clinton would win? Well, as bad news for Hillary Clinton!
Bloomberg: "Biden More Competitive Than Clinton Against Leading Republicans: Poll"
Politico: "Poll: Biden outperforms Hillary in general election; Trump leads GOP field"
Time: "Voters open to Joe Biden presidential bid in new poll"
Two things are happening here. One is that "Clinton is still winning" is a boring headline, so there's a tendency to grasp at straws to come up with something else. The other is that the press as a whole doesn't like Clinton very much (and the feeling is mutual), so there's a bias toward believing that the public feels the same way. So somehow her campaign is struggling even when it's winning, and polls that show her winning are reported as showing her losing.

(2,328 posts)Some of the results are interesting.
Clinton v. Bush 42 to 40
Sanders v. Bush 43 to 39
Clinton v. Trump 45 to 41
Sanders v. Trump 44 to 41
These are all statistical ties with a margin of error of +/- 2.5%.
Biden v. Bush 45 to 39
Biden v. Trump 48 to 40
Biden wins with higher margins than Sanders or Clinton.
For the question 'candidates you would definitely not support for the Democratic nomination':
Clinton 11%, Biden 8%, Sanders 5% (MOE bigger because only Dems were asked, +/- 3.9%)
And finally from the end of Quinnipiac's summary:
Jeb Bush has a negative 32 41 percent favorability rating among all voters, with Clinton getting a
negative 39 51 percent score, her worst ever. Ratings for other top contenders are:
48 39 percent for Biden;
Negative 36 54 percent for Trump;
41 27 percent for Rubio;
32 28 percent for Sanders.
Trump and Clinton have the worst scores among top candidates on honesty:
Clinton is not honest and trustworthy, voters say 61 34 percent, her lowest score ever;
Trump is not honest and trustworthy, voters say 54 38 percent.

(12,228 posts)going into the real voting campaign but this is way way early to be anything but empty opinion sparring. Seeing Sanders, Hillary, O'Malley etc in a debate can/will be as decisive as what happened to Trump. A week or two after the debate polls it will be a "bounce" or a decisive shift. Later debates just as decisive means it will be ulcerating excitement for all. Hillary is still THE candidate until the real polls open. With just six it probably means two will tell the story. You can argue later if it would have been better for one or the other to have had twenty debates(with strong regional coverage!) but for the party more would have been better- and better still if they were taken out of stifling party and media influence.
To break out of frontrunner regal malaise requires bold and clever moves. Rarely if ever done for obvious reasons. Grin and bear it might get you through it which is tough to do if you lost last time around.
