MINNEAPOLIS Hillary Rodham Clinton sought to position herself as the clear standard-bearer for Democrats here Friday, firing up a roomful of party loyalists with a call to arms against Republicans she called dangerously out of touch.
This election is about who best understands the pressures facing the families of America and the challenges facing us in the world, and who has the skills and tenacity to tackle them, Clinton said in a passionate speech to the Democratic National Committee's summer meeting.
Peppering her address with gibes at Donald Trump and other Republicans, Clinton drew deafening cheers and many laughs from a crowd that seemed delighted by her sharply partisan stance.
Although Democrats have expressed doubts, some publicly, about Clinton's strength and skills as a candidate, no qualms were evident in the overwhelmingly supportive crowd Friday. Basking in the shouts, claps and chants of support, Clinton gave one of the most evocative addresses of her six-month-old campaign, and one of the best-received.
She cast herself as a warrior for traditional Democratic values and a laundry list of more current concerns, including more affordable college education.
"My whole life I've worked to even the odds for people who have the odds stacked against them," Clinton said to cheers....

(796 posts)Chafee's speech focused on resume. Clinton's on principles. O'Malley's on debates. Sanders so far has been about his campaign.

(30,058 posts)A lot of clapping and cheering. I read the speech Bernie is to give, same cookie, just a different oven. Because of issues brought out by other candidates there has been some additional information. Hillary is doing very well.
