Is Bernie Sanders's once electrifying campaign showing signs of burn out? (Hillary Group)

Two thirds of the way into one of the most unlikely political insurgencies of modern times, the once electrifying campaign to elect Bernie Sanders as Democratic nominee for president is looking for a new jolt of energy from Saturday’s second television debate.

But with poll numbers flatlining in the face of Hillary Clinton’s invigorated electoral machine, those close to team Bernie privately concede the momentum they really need to recapture can only come now from victories in early-voting states – particularly Iowa and New Hampshire.

Interviews with some of those working on the ground suggest the emergence of a tightly focused strategy that is a far cry from the heady days of packed rallies in liberal bastions across the country over the summer.

The hope, they say, is that it will be defeating former secretary of state Clinton in one – or preferably both – of the first two voting states that really makes Senator Sanders famous among ordinary Democratic voters.

“Name recognition is good among college students and self-identified progressives and party activists, which are not a majority by any stretch, but when you get beyond that it is very low,” said one senior adviser who spoke anonymously to the Guardian about conditions outside New Hampshire and Iowa.

“Bernie Sanders has a big hill to climb … people don’t yet know who he is and what he stands for.”...

My 24 year old daughter who is a FLAMING liberal was all for Sanders. Not anymore.

She supports Hillary now.

7. Has "Bern-out" replaced "Feel the Bern"? All the great press BS has gotten hasn't seemed to help.

He has stagnated, and I don't see him recovering far beyond where he is now. His numbers are similar to those of Elizabeth Warren who wasn't even running. He's peaked where she left off.

8. My impression was that "feelthebern" was NOT a rallying-call. Instead, it was intended to TAUNT.

To me it seemed to be LESS about uplifting Bernie and motivating his supporters, and MORE of a WARNING to others that they will be experiencing the wrath of Bernie's anger (as well as the anger of his supporters).

Based on what I've seen, I think it's been a very appropriate and accurate hashtag slogan.

I'm eagerly awaiting the day when an equally (and appropriately) taunting hashtag starts to become common: #CrashAndBern

his platform has limited appeal. He has gotten pretty far with his "pie in the sky" promises of free college for all and take from the rich and give to the poor strategy. But his lack of actual plans, or even a political coalition, to achieve these things, makes them appealing to mostly young dreamers and "true believers".

He may have climbed his hill already while Hillary is already more than half way up the mountain.
