HOOKSETT, New Hampshire – Planned Parenthood, the Human Rights Campaign and other progressive groups that have endorsed Hillary Clinton are not part of the political establishment, Sen. Bernie Sanders said Thursday, walking back comments he made earlier this week on MSNBC.

........The clarification comes after Sanders responded to a question from MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow earlier this week about why so many progressive groups – including Planned Parenthood, NARAL and the Human Rights Campaign – were backing Clinton over him.

“We’re taking on not only Wall Street and economic establishment, we’re taking on the political establishment,” Sanders said. “So, I have friends and supporters in the Human Rights Fund and Planned Parenthood. But, you know what? Hillary Clinton has been around there for a very, very long time. Some of these groups are, in fact, part of the establishment.”

Clinton has been criticizing Sanders’ comments in recent days, pointing out that the identified groups are focused on fighting for rights of women and the LGBT community.

“I don’t really understand what he means by that. These are two of the really great human rights, progressive organizations in our country,” Clinton told CNN on Thursday afternoon.

His first comments may have been from disappointment about endorsement going to Hillary but the establishment remark was wrong.

I haven't decided on who I'm supporting, but this is a huge tick in the no box for me. After all the crap that PP has had to put up with, and women, I'm spitting nails.

Hillary has spent her adult life working for women and families....why is this a surprise to people....and why are the Bernie supporters so ugly about it. I realize that Bernie has voted 100% on women's issues, and that's awesome, but sorry, voting and working are kind of 2 different commitments.

That is a great point. There is no comparison between working and casting a vote.

Hillary walks the walk while Sanders talks the talk, and made a few yes votes he touts at every opportunity.
A couple of the no votes of his that really bother me are, of course the one against the Amber Alert, but also the one against doubling the standard deduction used for singles on their income tax for married couples as well, instead of the lesser deduction offered them, in order to help lower and middle income families pay fewer taxes. This larger deduction doesn't discriminate against families and would make a huge difference when every penny counts for people trying to take care of their families.
When you listen to his plan details he proposes a "small" tax hike for this one and another "small" tax hike for that, not to mention payroll tax increases. If we were to put all of these together they won't be small anymore.

Everyone asked him for details about his health care plan. He released an eight page "plan." It is, in reality, a rough draft, a plan for a plan, an outline.

I can't find the original article that said his plan was eight pages long. If I do find it again, I will post it. However, by this time, he should have worked out many more details and should be able to answer people who are worried about things like the Hyde Amendment, which he has not yet addressed.

Establishment (n): Anyone who disagrees with a white male politician.

The hashtag that just keeps giving......

It speaks to the divisiveness of his campaign and his enormous privilege. To dis groups that have been fighting the good fight for women and LGBT for decades as "establishment" simply because they did not endorse your candidacy is beyond egotistical. And it shows WHY these groups chose Clinton in the first place. Because as soon as the chips are down, or something is not to his liking, he attacks. And why does Bernie Sanders think that he is the arbiter of what is and is not "establishment" in the first place is beyond me. Lord knows he has been in politics long enough to qualify himself. People are literally DYING at Planned Parenthood, dying, because they supported a women's right to choose. They should be accorded some respect by other members of the progressive coalition.

kfreed2: .@BernieSanders We're dodging bullets at Planned Parenthood down here in the Springs. Thanks for the support, jerk. #ImSoEstablishment
