The best reason to support Clinton isnt the weaknesses of her opponents; its her demonstrated strengths and experience.
By The Editorial Board JANUARY 24, 2016
America looks different in 2016 than it did the last time Hillary Clinton ran for president: The economy has come out of free fall, the military has left the quagmire of the Iraq war, barriers to equality have toppled, and universal access to health care has become a reality. Tumultuous as theyve been, the Barack Obama years have proved transformative and the priority for Democratic voters should be to protect, consolidate, and extend those gains.
Today, the nation has new challenges, which require a different kind of leader someone who can keep what Obama got right, while also fixing his failures, especially on gun control and immigration reform. That will require a focus and toughness that Obama sometimes lacked. This is Clintons time, and the Globe enthusiastically endorses her in the Feb. 9 Democratic primary in New Hampshire. She is more seasoned, more grounded, and more forward-looking than in 2008, and has added four years as secretary of state to her already formidable resume. Democrats in the Granite State should not hesitate to choose her.
As the recent spate of mass shootings has made tragically clear, the next president will face a crisis of gun violence. Firearms killed more than 33,000 Americans in 2013. The intransigence of Congressional Republicans whove blocked reform can hardly be blamed on Obama, but it has become clear that he wont be able to make a dent in the problem before leaving office.
Clinton promises to close the kind of loopholes that allowed killers like Dylann Roof to obtain weapons, and to lift restrictions on federally funded research into gun violence. She also supports reimposing the federal ban on assault weapons, which expired under George W. Bush.

(30,058 posts)But because Hillary is the most qualified. On the other hand if I was looking at the candidates I would not choose Sanders because he is the least qualified out of the DNC candidates.
Cha
(297,317 posts).. Hillary is innumerably more qualified than her opponents, Thinkingabout.

(297,317 posts)"Clintons assertive record on guns stands in contrast to that of her main Democratic opponent, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who voted against the Brady background-check bill and, his claims notwithstanding, is not a convincing champion of gun control. Sanders presents himself as an avowed foe of big business, but his vote to protect firearms corporations from legal liability tells a different story. Clinton is simply more credible on what for too many Americans is a life-and-death issue."

(9,070 posts)Media want a contest that is good for ratings, but they have ignored the obvious issues with Bernie. This is one of the first large papers to look carefully at Bernie. Sander's record on guns is one of several problems that tend to be ignored in his record.
Cha
(297,317 posts)and who's the credible candidate and who is not.
It's his record and it needs to shown to the public.. not covered with a hide.. thank goodness for the newspapers and all those who are researching and letting people know his voting history.
I can't imagine what would still would be happening in the media if HC's campaign had been the one caught stealing campaign data from the BS' campaign. That was real, too, and not a fake made-up scandal.

(9,070 posts)he has been free to run wild; making impossible assertions and selling snake oil. His history and record has only be vetted by a few local baby-reporters.
The GOP would love to run against Bernie - and that's why they have dumped resources into trolls and infiltrators to boost his campaign. They have also helped his "on line" presence and Bernie himself doesn't know where the support comes from in most cases.
They memes that crop up are fed to the faithful regularly.
Bernie gets a pass on most of his past, weak policies, and clear mistakes on the trail. Hacking the DNC database was one sign of Benie's true morality; but we've heard nothing about the "investigation" have we???
Why isn't it the number one question at the town hall? Why not on MTP? Just saying.
pandr32
(11,588 posts)...is that Sanders' "crossover appeal" might not be such a good thing. He is seen as an independent who is running against Hillary Clinton and crying out about her being establishment and close to Wall Street (even though the "Wall Street" donations were actually from employees, and after HC went to bat to help New York after 9/11). To the right-wingers who see themselves as "anti-establishment" and who have taken the media bait and hate Hillary Clinton and Democrats, Sanders seems appealing, particularly considering Republican candidates are ridiculous and there are no independents running except for Sanders, even though he is strategically running as a democrat.
This could back-fire on democrats who would find the party infiltrated by those who are as uncooperative and ideological as those far-right-fanatics who have taken over the republicans.

President Obama has the distinct honor of being one of the first they threw under the bus.. We'd have to ask how much he cares.. but I have a pretty good idea. LOL

(16,104 posts)Continue the progress we have made (stay the course) with Hillary - or change.
While Sanders wants to go outside the party and appeal to a potential electorate for a 'political' revolution, history demonstrates when Americans vote for change, they put in the other party.
We haven't had Democrats more than 2 terms in a row since FDR, and then 'they' changed the constitution so that wouldn't happen again!
It's no coincidence the same 'Democrats' who dislike Obama support Sanders. They just don't understand and care if realistically this is not where a successful majority of voters will come from.
Instead of changing history, we'll just repeat it.
Dividing one party will not defeat a united party.
Cha
(297,317 posts)there hadn't been such unprecedented obstruction, what so much more we could have accomplished.
Obama has worked so hard for us and he/we deserves not to have his progress destroyed.. and Hillary is the one who will go in and build on it and make her own legacy in 8 years!

(15,438 posts)It really is no surprise that the same 'Democrats' who've been tearing President Obama down, are now on full attack mode against Hillary Clinton and are currently supporting Bernie - except for a few that I can count on one hand.
It makes you wonder if they even support the Democratic Party, doesn't it?
