If Youre Liberal and You Think Hillary Clinton Is Corrupt and Untrustworthy, Youre Rewarding 25 Years of GOP SmearsChez Pazienza January 31, 2016

Bernie Sanders will never be president. Lets just get that out of the way right now. He stands very little chance of pulling down the Democratic nomination and no chance at all of winning a general election. His rabid acolytes can argue with this all they want but theyll be wrong for several inarguable reasons: because the political revolution Bernie Sanders needs to advance his campaign and agenda is pie-in-the-sky thinking that simply doesnt occur in representative democracies like ours, where change always comes incrementally and our entire system is designed so it cant be remade in one fell swoop; because hes a one-note candidate who concerns himself with nothing other than his admittedly noble lifelong obsession with wealth inequality; because America isnt evolved enough to elect an avowed socialist, democratic or otherwise, and it unfortunately wont get near someone who openly eschews religion; and maybe most importantly because once the GOP considered Bernie a sworn enemy rather than the perfect foil it can use to destroy Hillary Clinton, it would eat him alive. Eat. Him. Alive.

There are reasons you may choose not to vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016, but one would hope theyre policy issues rather than problems with her personality because the personality thats been sold to the American electorate is largely manufactured, and not by Clinton herself (another facet of the smear: that shes a phony). The reality is that Clinton was one of the most liberal members of the Senate during her time there, ranking within ten points of progressive messiah Bernie Sanders and her history as a crusader for progressive causes is precisely what so motivated the GOP to destroy her in the first place. As far as the right was concerned, Clinton stepped far over the line when she pushed for healthcare reform way back in 1993 and her activist past informed a future as a difficult woman. By the way, it hardly needs to be said but many of the conservative attacks on Clinton throughout the decades have been the product of rank sexism. Men rarely get labeled difficult or abrasive and their general likability isnt often called into question. Those are all buzzwords employed specifically to knock empowered women down a peg. And Hillary Clinton has been subjected to them and so much worse her entire political career.

(28,270 posts)Trump and the tea party are praying that Bernie can somehow knockout Hillary.
Bernie would be the biggest pushover in the GE since McGovern. It would be a republican landslide and hand the SCOTUS over to hardcore rightists for the next 40 years or so!
Bush just about destroyed this country in 8 years Herr Trump would finish the job.

(15,438 posts)What is it with Bernie supporters that they can't stay OUT of the Hillary Clinton Group?
Still, no matter how Bernie supporters wished differently, their preferred candidate will NOT become the Democratic Party's nominee for president.
He's already failed to convince the majority of minorities that he cares about them and their issues, and without their support, he's toast, meaning, he'll never be the Democratic Party's nominee. However, he will be richer after this and he'll have some added gravitas so he'll be able to brag that he, too, ran for president once upon a time.

(368 posts)claims that Sanders will be eaten alive if he gets the nomination. Really? Does the writer think that Clinton won't get the same treatment? Come on.
Secondly, the writer brings up her time in the Senate, and how progressive she was. She voted to invade another country, and consequently total instability in the region. Her experience did nothing for her.

Hillary did not "vote to invade" Iraq, she voted, with the vast majority of Dems, to authorize force based on conditions, including that Bush let Hans Blix finish his inspections and only go in with UN approval. Bush did neither. And he entered without an exit plan and dismissed Sadam's army, creating ISIS. That is on George Bush, not Hillary. Hillary would have never done that, as the conditions in the IWA demonstrate.
It is disgusting how some Sanders supporters prefer to blame Hillary and/or Dems for Iraq instead of the war criminal who actually committed the crime.
Oh, BTW, you are in the Hillary Group. It appears that escaped your powers of observation, as did a lot of other things.

(36,130 posts)I like her style and don't see the words "difficult and abrasive" as anything but the whining of passive/aggressive inferiors.
The test will be this question -- every minute of her leadership -- "If a man in front of you said or did this, would you still feel/think/act the same way?"
If Hillary wins, that question should be posted on a wall of each and every West Wing office.
