Sanders: Obama Hasn't Closed 'Presidential Leadership Gap'
http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/sanders-obama-hasn-t-closed-presidential-leadership-gap-n516586
by Kasie Hunt
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Bernie Sanders says the aim of his political revolution is to bring more people into the political process than President Barack Obama, arguing that he can close a presidential leadership gap that's persisted over the eight years of the Obama administration.
"There's a huge gap right now between Congress and the American people. What presidential leadership is about closing that gap," he told MSNBC in an interview Wednesday that will air in full Thursday evening on "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell."
Asked if he believed President Obama had closed that gap, Sanders said: "No, I don't. I mean, I think he has made the effort. But I think what we need, when I talk about a political revolution, is bringing millions and millions of people into the political process in a way that does not exist right now."
Sanders said his strategy for pushing through an ambitious agenda that includes single payer health care and free college tuition would involve mobilizing thousands of people who don't currently participate in the political process though he did acknowledge that the president turned out more voters, particularly minorities, than ever before.
His remarks come as the Democratic primary turns toward more diverse states like Nevada, with a large Latino population, and particularly South Carolina, where black voters are a majority of the primary electorate. Hillary Clinton has criticized Sanders in the past for being critical of the nation's first African American president. Sanders "criticized President Obama for taking donations from Wall Street. Sen. Sanders called [Obama] weak, disappointing. He even in 2011 publicly sought someone to run in a primary against President Obama," Clinton told an audience in Charleston, S.C., earlier this month.

Andrea Mitchell and Kasie Hunt were just discussing it again, and stressed the fact that Sanders is now going after Obama, as you say -claiming that Obama was is a weak and disappointing President.

Suffice to say that President Obama wants Hillary Clinton to be POTUS for an excellent reason. She appreciates all the successes and lives in the reality of them.
We'll see who's "weak and disappointing". he's running on the Dem ticket smearing the successful and beloved President of the Democratic party.

(16,104 posts)The fact that Republicans are turning out in record numbers - and Democrats in decline - does not bode well for 'the revolution' and, in fact - we lose if Republicans turn out in record numbers while Democrats stay at home!
This is the result of the Democratic Primary so far. The exact opposite of the campaign promises. And Hillary supporters understand the results will always be the exact opposite of his promises.
"The opposite of pragmatism is not idealism - it's wishful thinking."

(10,836 posts)Yes, magic numbers, wishful thinking and dissing the first AA POTUS does not a revolution make. Particularly when you're heading into primaries where minorities have a very influential sway in the vote.
But please, keep on digging.
Hillary goes to Flint; Bernie insults the Obama Administration. Hummm. Who has their finger on the pulse??
Btw, have you read Sady Doyle's essay on Progressivism [or what women sound like when they stop smiling]? I found the piece on Uppity Woman's blog. Link to original Tumbler piece here:

My salute to Doyle and everyone else who has had it with the Sanders' fawning and fairytale circuit.

about Obama. He's been hold back, cause he knows it won't get him anywhere (which is a little inauthentic and calculating, I know.)
Hillary and her supporters need to really flush Sanders out on his true feelings about Obama, perhaps using the words of Cornel West -- who Sanders frequently has introduce him -- as the foil.
West has called Obama a Rockefeller Republican in black face, a "niggerized" president, and a lot worse.
Senator Sanders, you frequently have Cornel West introduce you to audiences [list a bunch, there are a lot]. But Mr West has called Obama, a "Rockefeller Republican in black face' and has used an ugly racial slur to characterize the president's approach to racial issues. Do you agree with him? And if you don't, why do you invite him on the campaign trail with you so often?

But you really can't blame Bernie for criticizing Obama- he has had a bad habit of criticizing Democrats since he was a young man and that habit is hard to shake.

THIS is what you call an attack? That is an opinion. Nothing more.
An attack is something like where Ms Clinton called out Senator Sanders for voting for the CFMA when she knows damn well it was added last minute to must pass funding resolution...while the author of the bill sits on her Campaign team as CFO....
Cheesus, a disinterested reader would think Hillary had hired Rove....
