(44,173 posts)primary season is probably the only time you will see a presidential candidate, given the Redness of that state for the general election.

(16,104 posts)The SEC primary is all about the Deep Red South getting first crack at nominating candidates in bulk!
And now they campaign down here!
This is Hillary Country - unquestionably! But not likely in the general!
This is where you can find the Democratic underground for sure!

(16,104 posts)Montgomery and a swath through central east/west Alabama (a.k.a. "The Black Belt" and Birmingham are true blue!
We all went down to Dexter Avenue Church to see Hillary at the 60th Anniversary of the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
The church was packed with invitation-only guests, but a crowd gathered early for no-show seats. Four hours later, out of the patient crowd, about six people got in!
The security - the church is a block from the Alabama State Capitol - was mindboggling!
All we saw was a hand wave, and she was gone!
But we wanted HER to see, there are Democrats in Alabama!
I'm sure the Birmingham event will be packed!

It's too bad that you didn't get to see more than a hand wave. But I am sure that she was moved by the sight of Dem solidarity, all the more impressive in a very "red" state. I know that I would have been.
