Hillary Clinton

I've noted this before. There are several places where you get on a page and there's no way to get out except back arrow. If you're a leaning voter, not fully committed, that might make you so mad you want to see if Bernie's site is less coercive. The two places I bumped into today were after I donated som money, they wanted me to make it a recurring gift. I didn't want to. Then when I committed to vote (I've always been committed and have given much money, but only recently decided to see how the internet campaign worked and actually signed up at the web site)... anyway, after I committed to vote my only options were to learn about voting and something else, I forget. It feels like really bad, stupid web design or scary ignorance about what might tick people off.
If you've experienced this, wait til tomorrow and then kick it up every few hours in hopes that someone in a position to take action will see it. I'd rather this not show up in Greatest Threads. Nothing I can do about Latest Threads.
TIA

(13,783 posts)I wasn't referring to popups, but when I did get a popup, and saw that there was no X to close in the upper right corner, I clicked there anyway. It had the H logo I think. It did close it, but not putting the visible X there reminded me of the stuff that pops up when you're illegally watching a sports event.

(13,783 posts)This is the screen I'm taken to if I click "donate." Maybe I clicked it by accident. Maybe I changed my mind. Maybe I just noticed that there would be no way to get out if I changed my mind. I was not referring to a popup, as one of the responders assumed.

(13,783 posts)After I donate, I'm taken to this screen. I didn't want to make a monthly donation. The only way not to "join" was to back arrow. That is rude web design.

(13,783 posts)I was shocked to see that my credit card info had been saved. I NEVER save it on websites. Given the coercive design of this site I have no trouble believing that I unknowingly clicked my agreement for this. Of course I can't figure out how to undo it.

(67,782 posts)....now that I've see them. No need to leave them there for all to see the other stuff on your screen.
I'll post a screen shot of what I see.

(13,783 posts)Once I donated, I began to get e-mails from the Clinton campaign. (As I said before, we've been giving to Hillary for years, but via my husband's e-mail.)

(13,783 posts)Spend $3 and see what happens as you go deeper. Maybe it is a browser issue. I'd be interested to know.

(13,783 posts)... ever visit this website, do you think? To get a sense of what is going on with this population of Democrats?

(13,783 posts)If so, could you be very specific about which page (not the first, that I can see), and what stuff is on either side? I could be missing it, I know.

(13,783 posts)I'd seen the contact link, but when I went to it, it was all about getting MY contact info. This time I scrolled way down and I found a phone number and snail mail address. No web master. I'm going to write a letter. But I'm going to keep kicking this post. Today when I went to the site to look at "contact," there was a popup inviting me to donate, but it had a "Proceed to HillaryClinton.com" in the upper right corner!!! Maybe some staff member did see this. I'll wait a few days and donate $3 to see what's changed. Or maybe wait a month or two for a serious donation. Will keep y'all updated.
LAS14
(13,783 posts)... 20 $10 gifts to Hillary. And I got an e-mail thanking me for my recurring donation. The invitation to make one's donation recurring is one of those pages that has no exit possibility except back arrow. I certainly didn't mean to make a recurring donation, but I guess the web design is meant to get people to accidentally sign up.
I don't think the top echelon of the Hillary campaign would endorse such tactics. And I know from experience that members of an organization rarely visit their own web sites. So I'm hoping, once again, that a campaign staff person will raise the red flag.
I do plan to send my observations, with screen shots, to the snail mail address I finally found on the web site. But haven't done it yet.

(4,542 posts)I'd advise you let your eyes scan the whole screen before you click. It was always the most common befuddlement.
LAS14
(13,783 posts)... well experienced in interface design. If you can find an exit method other than back arrow or closing the whole website, please tell me. It will cost you $3. Or look at the screen shots I attached early in this thread. Please do let me know, as I'm planning on putting together a snail mail package.

(13,783 posts)... my point. You don't expect to have to do that. Lots of people don't even know about the back arrow. (Yes, Virginia). That's why it's bad design to expect people to use it. It's coercive to get the person to click the only button on the window.
Again. I suspect the top people in the campaign have never been to her web site. Why would they. Do you go to the web site of your company or church or condo association?
