Lots of stories from Democrats of problems. The DNC Arizona branch has confirmed legal action: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/3/22/1505136/-Arizona-Officials-Confirm-Legal-Action-in-Primary-Fiasco-Sanders-Ask-Voters-Monitor-Situation?detail=email&&can_id=6b00570920b54ffefb3f132b32f59329&source=email-arizona-officials-confirm-legal-action-in-primary-fiasco-2&email_referrer=arizona-officials-confirm-legal-action-in-primary-fiasco-2&email_subject=arizona-officials-confirm-legal-action-in-primary-fiasco&link_id=1

Instead of jumping up and shouting and screaming the energy should be placed in finding out if the ballots are getting certified and if certified then they are counted. If the provisional ballots are not certified I would hope some action would be taken for voter fraud against the person filling out the provisional ballot. It will be interesting to see if there was non qualified people attempting to vote and disrupting the voting process of qualified voters. More to this story than has been admitted.

(27,812 posts)This was a perfect storm, competitive races, high turnout, repeal of the Voting Rights Act so Arizona could get away with lowering the number of voting sites, Arizona Republican officials actually lowering the number of voting sites, and then a large number of people switching their registrations from Independent to Democrat or Republican so that they could vote for Sanders or Trump. It sounds like this process also mucked up some existing Democratic registrations too, but didn't it occur to the people doing it that a massive number of people re-registering for a different party could cause problems?
On top of that, probably some people who weren't really eligible to vote demanding ballots anyway.

(11,586 posts)Republicans and vote suppression go hand and hand--they have no hope winning with their "values" or whichever candidate becomes the nominee.

(27,812 posts)This concept of disruption that is so pervasive - the Uberization of the voting process. I don't like the rules so I'm going to break the rules.

(11,586 posts)In others it is sometimes a single semester class that could easily be slept through. It should be taught in all schools beginning with Middle School--ditto for current events and world history. How can we expect to compete in a growing international economy if Americans are clueless about everything?

(11,586 posts)I mean, we wouldn't have any problem with ISIL if it wasn't for Hillary's vote, right? The fact that she stood on the Senate floor, in front of Sanders, and gave a cautionary speech underscoring how important it was to let the inspectors do their job before any military action would be considered seems to have been erased from his memory. Bush and Cheney did not bother to let the inspectors finish--they lied to Congress.

(31,234 posts)the right to pre-approve any changes they want to make with regard to voting. AZ should be sued by it's voters because I'm sure it wasn't only BS voters standing in those 5 hour lines. This could impact the general election if it's not attended to now. How the hell do you go from 200 polling locations to only 60 in four short years?
And trust me, I'm no longer surprised what's allowed to be posted at DU, or the weird sources they use as backup.

(11 posts)I am seeing tons of Bernie supporters now blaming Hillary for this. Hillary was always going to win Arizona and every poll indicated that. I am sorry but I am sick to death of Bernie supporters already. They make Hillary out to be a republican and anything liberal she says they say she stole from Hillary. Never once crosses their minds that two democrats would have similar views.
For anyone interested, the woman who decreased the amount of polling places was a republican.

(3,825 posts)because all the little tricks they were hoping to pull like they did in Missouri, just didn't work in Arizona. Missouri - Open Primary.....
Arizona - closed primary. So sorry #notsorry. Plus an edit for them to know that republicans control everything in Arizona, governor, and both legislative houses. They don't want people to vote.

(50,557 posts)It is very simple, children: If you KNOW there are going to be a limited number of polling stations open on election day and you KNOW you want your vote to count, you do an absentee ballot. (Welcome to DU, Jamie!)
Bernie's biggest problem in Arizona - and it is immense - is that he claimed illegal immigration isn't a problem; that all we need to do to fix it is implement criminal justice reform. This answer demonstrates the absolute tone-deafness of the Sanders campaign; in Arizona, illegal immigration is a HUGE FUCKING PROBLEM! When Bernie said they just need to fix the criminal justice system to fix illegal immigration, the first thing I thought was, "there goes Arizona and California..."

(11,586 posts)It sure would get rid of a whole lot of drama. Online would be like doing our taxes online with a pin# and/or password. A mailed or e-mailed notice would give confirmation, but of course one would be able to print out their ballot straight from the site as soon as they vote to keep for their records (and in case of problems).
The tradition of going to the polls is hopelessly outdated and problematic.
jmowreader
(50,557 posts)Someone WOULD figure out how to hack it, and then the Republicans would start hiring Russian "victory shops" to stuff the online ballot box for them. Mail-in is fine, but keep it on paper please.
pandr32
(11,586 posts)We already have "hacking" of electronic voting machines and all kinds of voter suppression. Besides--everyone would have a record via confirmation.

(2,331 posts)I know the Sanders supporters think that Hillary somehow conspired with the Republicans that hate her in the state but it needs to be cleaned up before the General. McCain is weak and it could be a Senate pick-up.

(10,014 posts)but all Democrats should be outraged by the voting problems caused by the Republicans in their effort to suppress the vote. The Mayor of Phoenix has written Loretta Lynch about the possible violations of the Voting Rights Act. I hope more elected Dems will speak up as well.

(297,242 posts)They warned that reducing the number of polling places from 200 during the 2012 primary election to 60 would mean long lines and discourage people from voting.

This hurt Hillary, too.. maybe more so.. since the diverse voters like her the best.
Thank you, pandr~
