Hillary Clinton to Unveil Talk-About-Her-Mom Strategy at First Campaign Rally

Hillary Clinton spent the opening weeks of her campaign addressing policy issues like criminal justice reform, voting rights, and equal pay for women.

But as Clinton transitions to a new, more intense phase of her campaign, expect her to get personal.

At Clinton’s first official campaign rally this Saturday in New York City, aides say the Democratic presidential candidate will make her most extensive pitch yet on why she should be president. And her late mother, Dorothy Rodham, will play a central role.

Over the years Clinton has often shared her mother’s life story, which was full of trauma and abuse. In Clinton's telling, Dorothy Rodham was abandoned by her parents as a young girl and sent to live with her unloving paternal grandparents in California. At the age of 14 she left home and found work as a housekeeper.

4. And to hear so many think Hillary was born with a silver spoon in her mouth.

Hillary was working at a young age because her mother was teaching her a lesson in life. Also, perhaps because of her mother's childhood may have influenced Hillary to be such a strong advocate for women's lives. I am waiting to hear the story, I am sure it will be inspiring.

6. Well it was silly from the very beginning, her numbers engulfed ALL other competitors

in BOTH parties. Some just cannot handle that one fact alone (maybe because she is a women, me thinks). I got chewed on for suggesting the mayor of NYC attend, since I think he should go to all events as the main representative of the city. If he can and we all know he can this event.

No no...I must be on HRC secret mailing list.

7. If DeBlasio endorses HRC later, those same people are going to stuff him under the bus

and kick the shit out of him to be sure he lays flat while they back over him again and again....! They'll say he was "always in the bag" for her, that he's a traitor, blah-blah-blah.

It's incredibly silly. I can't see how they think it makes a difference. They took the first half of an article, shoddily written, that said he liked BOTH candidates but was withholding his endorsement, and tried to twist it into an endorsement for poor Bernie Sanders (who is a nice guy and deserves better "supporters," frankly).

I think DeBlasio knows that he's not cutting it as mayor--he's doing some bold things but he's also pissing people off, to include groups that are very good at getting out the vote and aren't afraid to mount primary challenges. He got a lot of donations the last time out, but the vast majority of them were the direct result of the work that HRC did, opening up her rolodex and asking people to donate to him. If he goes another way, he's not going to get that help again. Personally, I think he's busy sewing his parachute--I don't think he wants to stay as Mayor For Life, or even a Long While. I think he'd rather do something else, perhaps at the federal level, maybe even a cabinet post.

Mayoring is hard work....!!! Especially NYC...that's a cat herding exercise of monumental proportions.

8. I think he should attend all party events that he can since he represents millions of voters.

Glad I can say that here without getting yelled at. He can still vote for whomever he wants, just go and show a strong support for the party at least do that.

I would and so would you, so someone like him should already know that. I am supporting Sanders, but was somewhat upset that he pulled a political stunt just to make some points. Okay you like Sanders, me too Mr. Mayor - now go show support for the Democratic Party.

I don't think 'mayor for life' is a good thing no matter what city.

10. He actually said he liked them both, but the article was written with a fake-lede headline.

I don't think he likes the mayor job all that much--it is a huge headache, and he's catching shit from cops, unions, you name it. A couple of terms is often a benefit to the city--the mayor knows the ins and outs after a while, and knows the characters/personalities. Boston had a mayor for life in Menino, and damn--he was superb. I lived in Boston under Sergeant, White, a bit of Flynn on occasion, and they all sucked compared to Menino. He rehabbed the worst neighborhoods, spent money on things like kids and beautification, and he left his stamp on the city, make no mistake. If cancer hadn't taken him from us, he'd still be in the gig.

As for DeBlasio, I don't get the sense he's thrilled in his job. If he can hop to a nice federal gig, I'm sure he would love to do that. He wants to try to make his endorsement mean something, but he may have stumbled a bit trying to be coy on this little thing. Now, if he'd scheduled out-of-state (or country) travel during this event, he'd have a better leg to stand on. I don't think his "I want to wait to hear what she has to say...." line is very believable. He worked for them. For YEARS. He could write the platform.

He's just playing to his base, but he needs to watch it, because his base is also hers, and hers is bigger than his and includes people who don't care for him. He would have been better with a No Comment, because his name in the paper with that wiffle-waffling doesn't sound for real -- it's a bit pander-tastic, I think.
