Venezuela says U.S. "far-right" wants to kill Capriles

By Daniel Wallis and Andrew Cawthorne
CARACAS | Wed Mar 13, 2013 7:05pm EDT

(Reuters) - Venezuela's acting president said on Wednesday that "far right" figures in the United States were plotting to kill opposition leader Henrique Capriles in an increasingly volatile atmosphere ahead of an April 14 election.

Accusations are flying and emotions are running high in the South American OPEC nation of 29 million people since the death last week of former socialist leader Hugo Chavez.

"We have detected plans by the far right, linked to the groups of (former Bush administration officials) Roger Noriega and Otto Reich, to make an attempt against the opposition presidential candidate," Nicolas Maduro said.

He gave no more details, but said in a televised speech that the government had sent a senior general to meet with aides of Capriles. There was no immediate response from Washington or Capriles' camp.

"Accusations are flying and emotions are running high in the South American OPEC nation of 29 million people since the death last week of former socialist leader Hugo Chavez." - Rotten

Zingy writing, too.

They probably put Roger Noriega and Otto Reich up to it, to fill in the story blank. They'd have to prop them up with canes and walkers. Aren't they getting a bit old for this?

----------------------------

Rotters: Oh-oh-oh, a Capriles kill would be so-o-o sweet! Imagine all those accusations "flying" and emotions "running high" in that commie OPEC hell-hole! Make 'em jump!

Roger Norigganuttin: Where's my sippy cup?

Otto Reichstagfire: And my Viagra?

Rotters: Tut-tut-tut! Coming up, gentlemen! Now as for the denouement? Scene: Miraflores Palace. Beat one: Meaty chavista with tattoos...and RED t-shirt...disappears inside carrying high-powered rifle with scope. Cut to: Riots, teargas, bus on fire, baby stroller rolling aimlessly with Capriles flag on it. Whaddya think? Whaddya think? Good? Good?

Roger Norigganuttin: Z-z-z-z.

Otto Reichstagfire: Z-z-snort-z-z!

Rotters: Okay, okay...OKAY. (Thinks.) Meaty chavistas, looking like Chavez, with tattoos, in red t-shirts...and RED bandit scarves...beat down on two well-dressed elderly gentlemen wearing Capriles buttons and weeping for their young hero...whose blood...whose blood is spattered on one of the old geesers' jackets....

Otto Reichstagfire: Pshaw! Whad ya say? Won't they know us?

Rotters: (sly smile) Ah! Ah! Misomisdirection!

Otto Reichstagfire: Whad?!

Rotters: Mobius Strip. The Art of War. Get it? Get it?

Roger Norigganuttin: Z-z...naw, nuke 'em!

No reason to try to dump that stuff here, around people who expect much more.

Radio Progreso in Miami has spent years pointing out the monstrous whoppers being excreted there regularly.

El Nuevo. LOL.

She cannot trust any media source that hasn't shown to be openly leaning towards a far-left ideology.

Not saying far-right leaning ones are trustworthy either, but apparently you can't have any that are unbiased.

It actually gets hilarious to be loose with the sources when you know that the source is correct. It never ceases to amaze me how demonized the news wire is around here (AP, AFP, Reuters). The reporting is dry for the most part with the occasional editorials. It's just factual stuff. The headlines are not even necessarily written by the writers and criticism often doesn't go beyond the headlines (which tend to be written to get attention).

There are a shitload of good journalists out there in the news wire. If you're going to be critical, be critical of the journalist in question, not the entire news wire in general. It just makes you look silly.

But yeah, I tend to try to find good sources because people here would rather deflect than actually discuss issues. I'll never get over Maduro's homophobic and biggoted statements which "required a poster to verify first."

While, yes, Judy only measures the quality of the source by whether or not it agrees with her worldview, PP's picking apart of news stories has actually opened my eyes a bit to the fact that the western media apparently relies on only a few sources in Latin America. Those sources have their own biases, so that what the Western Media thinks is an unbiased report really isn't.

You have to completely ignore the emotional aspects of the writing to get to the factual stuff. Direct quotes, actual observations, factual actions. I remember the reporting on the Amuray explosion. A lot of it was super emotionally charged.

I don't see much wrong with this if you are capable of parsing out the emotional language.

I admit that it is a problem for people who fall for this kind of reporting. But I see plenty of emotionally charged non-sense from Latin America media and propagandists, as well.

Note the .gob in the link. This is a government website.

No reason to try to dump that deflection here, now.
