The former governor of the Sucre department is arrested for his alleged role in a 2000 paramilitary massacre.

Former Governor of the Sucre department, Miguel Angel Nule, was arrested while about to board a plane to Miami where he was hoping to visit his grandchildren.

According to Nule's attorney Jaime Granados, who represents several prominent politicians including former President Alvaro Uribe, Nule was arrested for "things he had been absolved of ages ago, related to his possible links to the Macayepo massacre" in which 15 peasants were killed.

Two of Nule's sons are in imprisoned over the embezzlement of millions of dollars of government funds through their construction company.
