(770 posts)Why would you doubt Maduro is less popular when he barely got half the vote in April and the economic indicators are all so much worse now? For Maduro to be declared more popular it would take a miracle.

(14,732 posts)Merely suggesting to Bacchus that the Chavez idolizers will probably attack the message since it was publiished in a Colombian (gasp) newspaper. So- obviously it must be wrong (and probably part of the dastardly CIA plot to demonize Maduro)

(1,954 posts)The article doesn't mention where, when and by who these polls were published, and not even what the current approval rate is. Under 50% means what? 25%? 49%?

(62,271 posts)I'm not testifying to the veracity of the poll because the only thing I could find for "maduro poll" (maduro encuestas) is this ND article. ND is notorious for gossip and spew (opposition site), however, if there's another IVAD source, it'd be legitimized. When I search for the title of the poll it only brings up ND for what it's worth.

(770 posts)These polls go with the economy, and with inflation being as high as it is, plus crime and things like that not budging much of course a few percent swung. If 5 % of voters switched then its 54 to 46 Capriles ahead. Given the economic figures it should be clear Maduro is not going to win a clean election right now. But he's making moves, some are stupid some work a little bit. He shut down Fondens ability to manage hard currency, which should slow the ongoing theft. And amazingly he's going to start privatizing oil well operations. This measure they published for lake Maracaibo oil wells sucks but evidently they are following the Cuban lead. Cuba's oil industry has a heavy foreign oil company participation.
