Saturday, August 3, 2013
A Tamaulipas state police patrol was set aflame during a firefight early this morning in the center of Reynosa.
According to "Reforma", and off the record, five military police were inside.
The firefight occurred at the intersection of Blvd Hidalgo and Herón Ramírez.
Several shops near the sight received gunfire as well.
It should be noted that no mainstream media in México reported the facts or images of the event. The only publication was through social networks.
Violence in México continues out of control after Enrique Peña Nieto assumed power.

(37,329 posts)Guns give power to those who would otherwise have none. There's a problem with the availability of guns and violence but there are statistical inconsistencies.
For example, I'm smart, skilled and educated. I'm a gun owner, but don't need to shoot somebody in order to be taken seriously.

(43,890 posts)Mexico has extremely strict gun ownership laws. It goes back to Spanish colonial times, when only the nobility had the right to bear arms. The Hidalgo class, the lowest rung of the nobility formed the bulk of the armed defenses. This has created many problems for the country. It delayed independence (because the bulk of the population had no weapons). It encouraged secession (because only the Texian colonists had weapons). It enabled the North American Invasion (AKA The Mexican-American War) because, again, the population as a whole was unarmed, and untrained in arms. And now, is enabling rampant chaos brought about by the narco-traffickers on the one side, the federal military forces on the other, and a third emerging force; local populations in armed rebellion against the federal government and the narco-traffickers. The state of Michoacán has nine cities that are openly defying both the narcos, and the federal government that is trying to disarm them.

(497 posts)But unfortunately as has been shown, plenty of whack jobs do. And there are those like Zimmerman and Micheal Dunn who are just itching for a chance to kill someone, preferably an unarmed kid.
We've really become a hateful country.

(160,530 posts)it's deeply thought-provoking that the media will not share the information with their public, as you would think they should feel obligated to do as journalists. That is their DUTY.
It's also something to continue remembering that violence in Mexico has spiraled after the nimrod was elected.
Clearly this is information too many people haven't heard, and probably won't.

(160,530 posts)himself a journalist, was assassinated, it starts looking as if there is absolutely NO way anyone working as a journalist in Mexico can be safe, considering where all the appeals for help ultimately have led.
To hear the big banks are wheeling and dealing throughout this macabre orgy is so sad, but wee already knew they are infinitely corrupt, anyway. What a shame they are truly above the law, isn't it? They OWN the law.
You'd think those in charge would realize there is an urgent need for change away from this bloodbath, but it appears those who can do anything about it are corrupt, themselves.
This is, as you said, beyond nightmares. What a shame there is no higher earthly power interested in doing anything to end it all, not really.
Thanks for the video. Those reports are excellent.
