GUATEMALA CITY - The United Nations says the Guatemala City offices of its Human Rights Council's investigator on freedom of expression have been burglarized.
The U.N.'s co-ordinator of independent human rights experts, Chaloka Beyani, says in a statement the robbers stole several computers and private documents from the office of Frank La Rue early Friday.
Beyani urged Guatemalan authorities to do a thorough investigation, saying any attack against a special rapporteur for human rights is always a cause for concern.
She added that the robbery at La Rue's office is of particular concern because of the country's "recent history of tensions with human rights defenders."
La Rue's office is located in a business district of Guatemala City, inside the building of the Central American Institute for the Study of Social Democracy.
