Maduro announces PSUV candidates for December municipal elections

http://www.noticias24.com/venezuela/noticia/185027/en-video-estos-fueron-los-candidatos-anunciados-por-maduro-para-las-proximas-elecciones-del-8-d/

What's hilarious about these is that among them are Winston Vallenilla and "El Potro" Álvarez for the Baruta and Sucre municipalities in Caracas, both of which are opposition bastions, and that these 2 "candidates" are nothing more than a tv presenter and a ex-Baseball player turned Reggaeton artist. My question is, where the bloody hell is the preparation, the skills, the experience required for a specific position? Do these people think now that because you've been in the spotlight for some time is now enough to be a good choice to run for mayor? But hey, then again they were likely handpicked by a president who was pretty much also handpicked by the former president, despite the fact that he never had any formal preparation to lead a country, much less a proper secondary education.

Considering this and the other announcements made this week, such as Ernesto Villegas, the current Minister of Communications, being chosen as a candidate for the Metropolitan District of Caracas, and his position being taken by a woman who just happens to be the sister of the Mayor of the Libertador District, it's pretty apparent that the PSUV only cares about unwavering loyalty in their candidates and not whether they have skills and preparation for their designated positions. Hell, what happened to the idea of holding primaries to see which candidate was voted to be the more popular one? A severe case of favoritism, don't you think?

I would also like to add THIS little gem just to show how utterly incompetent and ignorant these guys are:

That's Maduro, a president of an entire country which has a coastline in the Caribbean, not noticing that he was confusing the Puerto Rican flag with the Cuban one. Sure says a lot about the intelligence this man has. In fact, I don't know what's worse, the fact that a president has no idea about which flag is is which when it comes to countries that have a lot in common with his own, or the fact that the people in that conference were still applauding him despite the blatant mistake he made. No one dares to say, "Um, Mr. Maduro, sir, that's not the Cuban flag".

the PR flag has red and white stripes while the Cuban has blue and white. P.S. I still think being an idiot is the likeliest reason but if he is legitimately color blind then it may be impossible to tell the difference between the two flags.

It's pretty pathetic. The Cuba-PR confusion on the part of Little Hugo is hilarious, though. He has one possible excuse--he's COLOR BLIND!

I wonder if Diosdado Cabello is getting itchy yet? If there's going to be a coup, I think he'll be the more likely guy to overthrow the government, not anyone from the right.

They haven't quite reached bottom, but they're well on their way.

PSUV could announce a paralytic slug in coma to run for a election and it would probably be a better candidate than anything the pathetic Venezuelan opposition could come up with. The cheap talk about "preparation, skills, experience required for a specific position" is bullshit and questioning Maduro's formal preparation is typical Latin America right-wing class hatred / bigotry / elitism.

Venezuela had hordes of supposedly "prepared, skilled, experienced", graduated leaders in the past. Do we need to remind where did they drive the country to?

As for the mistake... it's really no big deal, specially because both flags are quite similar. And every leader commits mistakes and blunders. It's childish to try to portray him as "utterly incompetent and ignorant" for something so irrelevant.

If I recall correctly, Obama committed a similar mistake some months ago, calling the flag of Wisconsin a Union flag, or something. Jacques Chirac once invited the former Brazilian president Fernando Henrique Cardoso for a rally and while presenting him to the Parisian crowd he announced "let's welcome the president of Mexico". Bush, of course, is the champion. He once asked if we also had blacks in Brazil...

doesn't look too good to me. I don't see anyone trying to emulate the Venezuelan model of government.

I'm positive that you'd feel right at home with someone like Ryan Seacrest or 50 Cent being mayors of your home town. Don't try to act like this isn't a bad move by Maduro, not only were these guys chosen by his own hand (not something I'd exactly call democratic) as cannon fodder for those municipalities which in the last few elections have only voted mostly in favor for the opposition, they're clearly there only for another 15 minutes of fame. What does Vallenilla or a reggaeton artist know about working as public servants? Hell, Vallenilla himself only declared himself a chavista nearly a year ago because he was desperate for some attention, during when Hugo was in his deathbed (something that Maduro also blatantly lied about, spewing bullshit that Hugo was recovering well). Why didn't he reveal his real political inclinations before while Chávez was still alive? Clearly he's nothing more than a brown-noser who's desperately trying to stay relevant in Venezuelan society (which he has poorly done, by the way). Don't try to pretend that you're not irked by these blatantly poor choices that Maduro has made.

PS. I'd also like to add that those candidates don't live or vote at all in any of the municipalities they've been assigned.
