Bridge communicating east and central Venezuela collapses

Once again, Anzoátegui state, northeast Venezuela, is isolated from north-central Miranda state and other central states, as the Boca de Uchire Bridge collapsed on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in six people injured and several damaged vehicles.

------
Several vehicles fell into the river as the bridge collapsed; rescue teams are in the area. Several injured were taken to the local hospital.

Recently, members of the Engineers' Institute of Anzoátegui state, headed by Freddy López, inspected the roads and bridges in the area. They warned against the poor condition of the Boca de Uchire Bridge and its likely collapse if corrective measures were not implemented. They even submitted their inspection's report to regional authorities, the Road Corporation, attached to Anzoátegui state governor's office, and the Ministry of Land Transport.

However, such corrective measures were not adopted and now Anzoátegui state's main highway is cut off from the rest of the country.
