Shoppers robbed after leaving supermarket (Venezuela, of course)

Thieves are targeting shoppers looking at their bags for scarce products like powdered milk and batteries. The elderly are particularly victimized. Thieves on motorbikes (chavista paramilitaries?) cruise around supermarkets looking for victims.

Why would Chavistas try to make lives worse for people? Maduro has enough troubles. DetlefK May 2014 #1

A package of corn flour, four toilet rolls or a bag of powdered milk have become as attractive to muggers as a fancy watch or a smartphone.

The same happens with car spare parts, like batteries, CD players, rims and tires. Now these items are on the wanted list of criminal gangs in Venezuela.

To become a victim one only needs to be lucky enough to get basic products at the supermarket or leave the car in a solitary place.

"At the entrance of Chacaíto metro station a woman mugged me to take two bags of milk I could buy, and then she ran away," reported Andrea Vilchez outside the supermarket. Vilchez asserted being afraid of buying at the supermarket, she fears being mugged again.

The violent environment in Venezuela, along with basic goods scarcity, has increased thefts and robberies of groceries and car spare parts. The number of stories from victims is on the rise. Moreover, misdemeanors like theft and robbery go often unreported.
