Paraguay’s bishops denounce corruption, lend support to family farms, unions
Catholic World News - November 11, 2014

The Paraguayan Episcopal Conference met from November 3 to 7 and denounced political corruption tied to the drug trade.

The bishops lamented “the worsening of the exponential growth of narcotics trafficking (with terrible consequences for public health) that infects and co-opts the powers of government,” according to a press release from the conference.

The bishops also called for land reform, praised family farming and unions, and called for a tax reform that would “permit the state to have the necessary resources to invest in the betterment of the conditions of life of the most vulnerable sectors of society.”

The South American nation of 6.8 million is 91% Catholic.
