A celebration to mark International Womens Day in Anzoátegui, Colombia, became, um, heated after a performance by a team of brawny male strippers hired by the towns mayor, Alfredo Garcia. The mayor has now apologized after being criticized because the strippers performed in a public area and in front of children of all ages, reports El Tiempo.
I apologize to the citizens of my town. Booking that show was a grave error and wasnt justifiable for International Womens Day, Garcia said in an interview with the paper.
The cost of booking the burly strippers reportedly came to a cool 14 million pesos (about $5,300) drawn from the mayors office budget, which critics say could have been used to address official matters in the town.
I signed the contract, but I didnt know what constituted this show. Truthfully, I had no idea muscular men would be dancing in their underwear, he said.
