The largest media conglomerate in the country published an article that included a staged picture taken by one of its journalists to falsely condemn a demonstrator.

After a high profile scandal broke highlighting police officers attempting to incriminate a demonstrator protesting against the mining project Tía María, the Prime Minister declared on Monday that those officers involved should be penalized.

During a speech at congress on Monday, Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano responded to the case, stating that “there is not a single circumstance in which the use of force or the use of power can be used without limits.”

He also stated that “we cannot impose a mining project with the use of force” and “police officers who abused their power should be sanctioned.”
