Colombia: Spy Chief Jailed For Spying
BOGOTA, May 1 (BERNAMA-NNN-EFE)-- Colombia's Supreme Court on Thursday handed down a 14-year prison sentence to former intelligence chief Maria del Pilar Hurtado for illegally spying on human rights activists, journalists, politicians and judges.
Prosecutors had been seeking a 20-year sentence for Hurtado, who headed the now defunct DAS intelligence agency when the spying occurred - between August 2007 and October 2008.

The high court also handed down an eight-year sentence in the same case to Bernardo Moreno, who held the position of chief of staff during part of former President Alvaro Uribe's 2002-2010 tenure as president.
Moreno was sentenced to house arrest because he was present at all court hearings in the case.
