A Bolivian taxi driver apparently took the law into his own hands, apprehending a suspected robber and locking him in his boot.

The driver, from Santa Cruz, claimed to have beaten the man with a stick and shut him in the boot of his car after recognising him as the man who stole his earnings the previous week.

In an interview with a TV reporter he says: "I've got the miscreant here. Do you want to see him?" before opening the boot, slapping the man hard on the stomach and yanking his legs to one side.

He adds: "I hit him with a stick, overpowered him, tied him up and brought him here. He's here in my boot and I want the police to come here and take him away.
