More than 11 Million Mexicans in Extreme Poverty

More than 11 Million Mexicans in Extreme Poverty

Mexico, Oct 15 (Prensa Latina) In Mexico, 11.4 million people survive in abject poverty today, admitted the Secretary (Minister) of Social Development, Jose Antonio Meade
He said the figure is set to the methodology of the National Council Evaluation of Social Development Policy (CONEVAL).

Meade assured that of this population, the National Crusade Against Hunger serves and helps 7.1 million people in 1,000 municipalities.

However, due to budget cuts next year, increasing attention to more people served by this strategy will not be possible.

Meade noted that according to how poverty is measured by the United Nations, in Mexico there are seven million people living on a dollar 90 cents, about 32 pesos a day.
