Elected President Is Asked to Stop Attacks on Unions in Guatemala

Guatemala, Nov 13 (Prensa Latina) The Workers Union Executive Committee at the Presidential Secretariat for Planning and Programming (ST-Segeplan) asked Guatemalan elected president Jimmy Morales to stop his attacks against union organizations.
In a statement, the group authorities suggested Morales to refrain from continuing the government policy of banning unions and collective negotiation.

We believe his opinions of the Guatemalan union movement has been very irresponsible, it would be an analogy to establish that all politicians are corrupt and thieves, and that all military are drug traffickers and genocidal, the text states.

The document recalls that Morales was elected on October 25th with 36.40 percent of votes, which represents a two million 750 thousand 847 valid votes out of more than seven million citizens, and despite that, he will represent national unity since January 14th.
