No coups in Venezuela

No coups in Venezuela
Jan Saturday 2nd 2016
posted by Morning Star in Editorial

OPPOSITION leader Jesus Torrealba would have the world believe that a “judicial coup” has taken place in Venezuela because the Supreme Court’s Electoral Hall has refused to confirm the election of four successful candidates.

Three are supporters of the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), of which Torrealba is general secretary, while one is a member of President Nicolas Maduro’s United Socialist Party (PSUV).

The Electoral Hall is investigating six other contests but has not taken pre-emptive action against the victorious MUD contestants.

Torrealba accuses the PSUV government of using “legal tricks” to steal victory from the opposition and complains that Venezuelans do not live in a “functional democracy.”
