A bishop whose church has been accused of 'aiding and abetting' illegal immigrants has claimed America is 'raping' other countries.

Minerva Carcano appeared in front of the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee in Washington to discuss immigration and border security yesterday.

The Methodist, whose church has been given federal grants to help the refugee crisis, made the comment after being accused of welcoming immigrants, regardless of their status, by Virginia Republican Bob Goodlatte.

She told the subcommittee: 'Immigrants want to stay home (but) they’re not able to stay home because we’ve undermined their economies. We have raped their lands.'
