In new trend, Mexican women are sporting dangerous scorpion manicures
A new shade of danger has debuted on the fingertips of Mexican women sporting scorpion manicures.
The bizarre trend, which involves setting small, dead scorpions on nails then covering each in acrylic polish before drying under UV light, is the idea of Lupita Garcia Diaz. The Durango native keeps her Facebook profile filled with posts related to the creepy crawlers, but the most talked-about content are the manicures.
Last fall, the scorpion enthusiast suggested the idea of a scorpion-themed manicure to her friend, Rocio Vidales, who owns a salon, according to Pop Sugar. Since then, news of the trend has transcended borders, recently making both U.S. headlines and British ones like Daily Mail.
Vidales told Daily Mail the treatment started at her business, Miss Uñas, as a "sick joke," but now women from the U.S. are traveling to her location to have scorpions fossilized on their nails.
