From a rebel armed force to a political party, the FARC-EP vowed to continue the fight for social justice in Colombia.
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia announced Sunday that the group's new political party will be up and running as of May 2017 as an open, democratic and modern movement that will welcome all those who want a positive change for Colombia.
The FARC-EP rebels, now in the phase of demobilization, said they have extended the organization's leadership from 23 to 61 members as it prepares to transition into a legally-sanctioned movement.

The announcement comes after President Juan Manuel Santos and top FARC-EP leader Rodrigo Londoño, also known as Timoleon Jimenez or Timochenko, signed a landmark peace agreement on Nov. 24, 2016, pledging an end to over half a century of internal armed conflict.
