Soldiers in Support Role for Elections in Honduras

Tegucigalpa, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) About 16,000 soldiers will be as of today at the temporary disposal of the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) in Honduras as support personnel for the March 12th primary elections.

Military spokesman, Colonel Jorge Alfredo Cerrato, confirmed that those soldiers will assume custody and transfer of the voting papers.

He pointed out that the electoral material will begin to reach the departmental main cities that are more distant from the capital since March 6th and then progressively to other municipalities of the country.

According to the high official, the soldiers who will comply with these functions received a special training, although the armed institution has already some experience in this kind of task after participating in previous electoral processes.
