Colombia: Union Leader Gunned Down By Two Men On A Motorbike

JUL Monday 3RD 2017
posted by Morning Star

A COLOMBIAN trade union leader was shot dead at the weekend as he watched his son play football.

National Union of Agricultural Workers president Roman Acostawas, who represented sugar cane cutters in the mainly Afro-Colombian province of Valle del Cauca on the Pacific coast, was targeted in the town of Guacari by two men who rode up to him on a motorcycle and opened fire.

. . .

The union leader was transferred to San Rafael hospital in El Cerrito, but he died later from his injuries.

. . .

Sugar cane development is a thriving business in the region, one of the most affected by armed conflict.
