Six members of a remnant quilombo area (former hideout for runaway slaves) were shot dead in Lençóis, in the Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, on Sunday (6). In less than a month, eight quilombolas (inhabitants of a quilombo area) were killed in an area of land disputes in the State.

The site of the slaughter is the Quilombola Territory of Iúna, whose process of land regularization was initiated recently by Incra (National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform, in its Portuguese acronym).

The victims lived in neighboring houses and were killed inside their homes by men who were in an unidentified black vehicle.

The State Court of Pará determined on Tuesday (8) the release of the 13 policemen involved in the slaughter that killed ten rural workers in a camp in Pau D'Arco (Pará), a city 867 km south of Belém.
