Using Fear to Strike at Cuban Tourism
by MANUEL E. YEPE
The mysterious case of the alleged acoustic attacks against US diplomatic personnel in Cuba turns out to have been a media maneuver aimed at damaging tourism in terms of as part of the blockade against the island.
One of Cubas greatest attractions for foreign tourism is the guarantee of security offered by the island to visitors from any part of the world. Another is the high level of public health in Cuba, one of the highest in the Western Hemisphere with health indicators comparable to those of the most developed nations.
In addition to the exceptional conditions with which the island has been endowed by nature, the popular revolution of 1959 has incorporated the dsocial conditions of peace and harmony that the visitor appreciates from the first moment of their stay in Cuba.
More than half a century of possessive paranoia, aggravated by the economic, commercial and financial blockade, have not been able to counteract the enormous achievements of socialism, even if they have postponed or limited many revolutionary economic and social advances in the country.

(10,849 posts)If the US govt wants to restrict tourism to Cuba they just change the regulations. (like they just did)
They don't make up a story about auditory damage to US embassy employees, how would that "scare away" tourism?
And they did send US embassy workers home, I suppose they are all in on the diabolical plan...lol

(160,542 posts)Cubans have been protesting the embargo and travel ban for decades. They want an END to the economic war, longest embargo in history, every placed upon another country.
Anyone who would be too slow to grasp the simple, unavoidable truth is beyond help.
It's almost as if you've never heard of the many attempts made by Cuban-American "exiles" to destroy the tourist trade in Cuba by sea, "exiles" in boats landing, going ashore with guns and ammo, to slaughter Cubans, some being caught and put in Cuban prison, and televised, some shooting at the hotels and beaches from the water in their little "float by" attacks, some murdering fishermen standing at the shore, and some, like Luis Posada Carriles, hiring people from Central America to work as "mules" taking in bombs and placing them in hotels, restaurants, and discos, killing one Italian tourist outright. The guy who killed the Italian tourist, and his companions was caught and testified in court.
Where have you been all the years these attacks on Cuba, including buzzing the island in old 2nd hand US military airplanes by Hermanos al Rescate (Brothers to the Rescue), personally witnessed and noted by the head of the US Interests Section in Havana, Richard S. Smith, which scared the citizens to death time after time after time, as they proceeded endlessly, with loud boasting from South Florida? Some times they have dropped leaflets, sometimes they have dropped medallions which can really brain someone unlucky enough to be standing in the wrong place.
This part is only a scratch on the surface to the terrorism launched upon the people of the island who had the courage to throw out the pieces of dirt supported by the US government all the years after the Spanish War up until New Year's Eve, 1959 from the US. Everyone who's bothered to inform him/herself has known for years.
Who benefits from withdrawing the US opening moves toward Cuba, initiated by Barack Obama? Certain not Cuba.
Who can benefit from using one's brain?

(10,849 posts)lol...the irony...
Could be the Cuban secret police, could be the Russians doing heavy handed surveillance.
I certainly don't think it is Miami/Cuban exiles sneaking into the country without the Cuban secret police keeping track of them and not noticing them aiming sonic rays at the US embassy.
